Eh, the fact is there are a lot of bitter Rockets fans, out there that need (like baby's and milk need) someone to hate and blame everything on.

Right now on the team, everyone is playing fine, so it is easier to go and blame an injured player that has "foot in the mouth" disease and has never lead the team to great success in the post season.

Although there is a new and fairly strong group of haters targeting poor young Aaron Brooks as well.

Lets just say for example that last year Rafer was healthy, Battier was healthy, and McGrady was healthy and the team knocked out the Jazz and lost to the Lakers in the 2nd round. There would be a VERY small minority who would have poked any kind of fun at Yao's expense.

What you speak of is fine. But thats not what is taking place here, at least not the majority of what is happening. This is "stole your girlfriend and got her pregnant" animosity. This is "killed your dog and served him to you for dinner" hatred.

And it doesnt become any of them that are saying it.

I see it as a Yin and Yang thing. Since there is a right, there must also be a wrong.

In order to feel secure about their heroes, they need to have some villians. And right now, McGrady and Brooks are the targets.

To be fair Brooks will suffer more than McGrady the longer he stays with the Rockets.

In fact, Brooks is currently the fastest Rocket I have seen fans turn on. I think it was not more than a week after Rafer left that Brooks's head was thrown on the chopping board, and it was only a week before Rafer's trade that a Brooks statue was being made.

The obvious target after Brooks will be Artest.

Or calling McGrady a ballhog or a ballstopper when he's the best passer on the team (and a willing passer at that), because it can't be his fault that he somehow manages to average seven or eight assists to guys who couldn't hit dirt if they fell on the ground. He still averaged more assists per game this season than anybody else, at half-speed while trying to kill a trade or sabotage the team's chances to win and quitting and all of this other junk.

Everybody here is unfortunately admitting by their negative reactions to a TEAM victory, where for once, some other Rockets got involved and made plays and scored and did everything you need a TEAM to do to win and advance at this time of year, that they've been grossly obsessed with what one guy does or doesn't do, or what they think he does or doesn't do.

The Jazz actually gave up home court "advantage" last season in the playoffs because they knew they could beat the Rockets. To a man, the Jazz and their coach admitted publicly and privately that they couldn't stop Tracy McGrady. He could score 50 points. He could dish out 20 assists. He could play all-out or go half-speed. Didn't matter to them. They knew that nothing he did was going to be enough to beat their TEAM.

We just watch Portland overcompensate for Yao Ming, giving other people the chance to step up and make plays and win, and most of these geniuses will still say that it's got something to do with McGrady's hairspray, or the runs in his stockings.

But you know what? None of that negativity matters. Basketball is basketball at this level. You're either good enough as a team to play and win, or you're not. Nobody sitting in a seat in a stadium or with a beer in their hand on their sofa or behind a keyboard on a fan forum changes that.

I LOVE that the ROCKETS won. I hate when the ROCKETS lose. I know that what separates good teams from great ones is what your best players do when the game is on the line.

But before you can get to that point, you have to have a good TEAM.

Not just a team of good guys who work hard and everybody likes and cheers for and roots for and makes excuses for.

Somebody joked about that "boring" Cletics/Bulls playoof series, that's more competitive thatn it should be. But what that sereis shows you is what most people in the game figure out eventually.

There's a BIG difference between your best players WINNING games and your best players keeping you competitive. If Kevin Garnett were healthy, the Celtics probably would have advanced by know. But because he isn't, the talent level is fairly even, so there's a close series.

Kobe Bryant stroked his ego only until he got his tail handed to him in the playoffs a couple of times After Shaq. He got a whole lot of humble pie to eat learning that no matter how good he was or wasn't, whether he was aggressive or facilitated, if his TEAM stank, the he lost. Bryant hated that so much that he held the Lakers by the throat until they re-built the roster around him.

What great players are on a GOOD team are difference-makers. They're not the whole ball of wax. I know ESPN and David Stern have done a great job of making it look like it's a one-man show. That's what sells tickets and spikes TV ratings.

It doesn't win. Never has. Never will.

Ask all these other psychologists around here to dust off the stat sheet of this series and find how many guys other than Yao or Ron Artest had a hand in winning games, and ultimately the series. Despite the fact that Artest is crazy or that Yao is soft.

My advice, my friend.

Love the game. They way it's meant to be loved.

And keep what you think or feel about anybody else out of it.

One of the BEST posts I have read on this board in a long, long time. The man put in alot of effort through the years despite the talent or lack of talent that we've had on this team until finally this year. He is still a Rocket right now and as fans let's focus on this next series and stop beating on a guy who until otherwise is still on our team.

Yeah, I've been surprised by the level of hate posts Brooks has gotten so quickly. I think a lot of the hate started when Brooks started showing problems with his entry pass to Yao, and a lot of it will go away if Yao's number of shots go back up.
