Trade Cuttino Mobley.

He's too stupid to ever grasp the concept of a team. He thinks a team is made up of 2 or 3 guys. The Rockets will NEVER win a championship with Mobley on the team.

Yeah, they may make the playoffs, but how many future 1st round eliminations are we gonna take?

He's comments yesterday on that show just proved what he's all about.

Trade him. get rid of him. He's selfish.

Trade him and alienate the teams best player and his Cat's best friend?

Better wait until Francis is signed long-term and better get a damn good scorer in return.

Easy. If they are a package deal, then package them both in a trade....

funny....this is what a lot of people were saying about Vernon Maxwell, too. "Just trade him," with little more to say, and certainly no suggested trade. Do you know Vernon shot 510 3-pointers his 1st full year as a Rocket in 90-91? For a 33.7%. 33.7% might sound OK at that volume, but it means only one thing, he was jacking them up, too.

Many Rocket's fans wanted his head, and it only got worse, until we started winning.

One thing everyone should agree on, you don't say "trade cuttino" without at least offering a trade. That's just frustration. It is difficult to trade him, as shooting guards don't typically give you taller players, and we don't need a PG, and packaging him with something to match a comparable shooting guard or SF's value is just silly, to lose two players like that just to ease your frustrations.

Trading Mobley for a high pick or a rookie is about as best as I can figure out...and that is all risky. I'll stick with the risk of expectations that Mobley does not hurt a contender.

It has been posted that the Steve/Cat connection might not be so sacred after all.

If we can replace Cat with Butler and get a center, then Cat + #1 could be good trade bait. The #15, KT or the exception can get us a small forward.

And no, we didn't need another thread for this. But I contributed, so I can't complain.

BlastOff - trade them both? No thanks.

ROXTXIA - I just don't want to piss off Steve before he signs his extension. After that let the chips fall where they may.

heypartner - 33% from the 3 point line is = to 50% from the field. I'll take it. It was the poor timing of some of Max's bombs that drove me (other fans and Rudy) crazy. He did get a little better as we went along. And your right I didn't b**** when they went in and we were winning. Winning cures a lot of ills.

I started a thread in Dec 1999 about a comparison between Max and Cuttino saying they are similar. I asked if you said you'd trade Max before the title runs, and I presumed the answer to be the same as for whether you'd trade Mobley now. I like them both (well, until Max made the ultimate sin of sabotaging our playoff drive). I would never trade players like these who give it their all and improve every year, and Mobley listens to Rudy and respects his team a lot more than Max did. You stick with these players. It almost always pays off. Hell, even Rodman paid off. You just need a coach or a superstar who they respect and listen to.

Check this out from Vernon's nba.com profile:

So, who got the better end of that deal. Max didn't get along with Mr Rogers, so they just dropped him. So Tweezer, you don't like Cuttino, so we should just drop him, too?

At least offer a trade, otherwise you are just showing your true colors as a frustrated fan, who needs winning to stop bashing players. Just like what Houston fans did to Vernon.

deja vu.

VooDooPope,

I know. I'm just thinking, if management had Cat on the block, they'd need to gauge Steve's reaction before pulling the trigger. I don't know the best way to go about that.

From what I understand, here and elsewhere, Steve is open to the idea of trading Cat if he knows the team will improve. This is why I post everywhere "get Caron Butler, get Caron Butler." He can replace and improve upon our current starting shooting guard. How to get him, and get a good center, and a small forward, I leave that to CD and RT.

I was just about to say the same thing. They both have fairly similar games too, except Maxwell was a better defender. Then again, he learned how to play good defense. I think Cat will too.

Fact still remains, Rocket's fans hated Vernon settling for that many 3pointers...it seriously effects the offensive flow. Isn't that exactly what people complain about with the Rocket's offensive flow. We settle for too many bad shots.

As for your math, I figured someone would say this, like that is why I predicted it in my first post. But you are not saying it correctly. It does not equate to "50% from the field." It equates to 50% *2 pointers*. And even then, it doesn't, because you are rarely fouled on 3 pointers, so it isn't close in terms of points per shot. People hated Vernon, because 510 3 pointers is WAY too many at a mere 33% versus inside guys hitting twos at around 55-60%.

btw: Vernon hit 45% of his 2's that year (with Hakeem) and Mobley hit 45.5% this year. Vernon 33.3% 3s and Mobley 40%. That's a significant efficiency difference.

I like them both, so don't anyone start a Vernon vs Mobley tangent especially when it has its own thread...which I didn't participate in, because I like them both. Please don't start because I'm making a comparison. The comparison is about people wanting to trade Vernon, as well.

Don't ask. I have a bbs memory that is embarrassing in a geeky sorta way. That is, I mark time based on historical Rocket's moments and matching bbs moments....isn't that geeky. I know the date (it could be early Jan), because it was near the time Barkley went down and everyone was really frustrated and trade talk was rampant. It was definitely before DaDakota wrote the infamous "Cuttino Needs a Good Dose Of Pine" on Jan 17th 2000 (give or take a few days) after the Chicage Bulls game fiasco, when Cat almost threw away a sure win in the last minute. That's where I started tracking Mobley's FG%, and he closed out that season shooting 47% in about 46 games. When everyone wanted Cat's head this year, I started tracking his FG%, and he close out over 46% for what? 54 games. Funny how he does that...you know, pours it on in the SECOND HALF of the season. He's done it twice now.

Too bad we don't have the search function...because y'all are just going to have to trust me...LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

heypartner -

True - "It does not equate to "50% from the field." It equates to 50% *2 pointers*"

Semi-True - "even then, it doesn't, because you are rarely fouled on 3 pointers, so it isn't close in terms of points per shot" - Some players don't hit 50% of their 2pointers and rarely go to the line because they settle for the jumper so its hard to judge points per shot across the board. That said I don't want a 33% 3point shooter cranking too many 3's when one more pass may net someone else a layup.

At least we agree on poor timing and poor shot selection driving us fans nuts.

PS I like both Max and Mobley. I hope Cat learns to play D like Max once did.

O.K., if these guys aren't holding this management and not selfish, then someone needs to coach them some professionalism for sure.Steve and Cat both need to know how to address issues without putting more pressure on management.I think if we get any small forward at all it should be Butler. But I still don't understand how drafting Ming, probably the most gifted athlete at the center position in the draft does not cross their minds as the biggest necessity.STEVE ---CAT we need a frickin' big guy damn't it.If he can just stand there and change a few shots and get a few rebounds he helps.THIS whole guard oriented team is getting out of hand.

And by the way if Cat and Steve are holding management hostage in sorts, I say get rid of them as we're still rebuilding.

#1 Yao Ming
#2 Jay williams (FRAnCIS to DA'BULLS)
#3 Butler (CAT<KT<#15 to GS)

MING
GRIFFIN
RICE
BUTLER
J Williams

ALL I KNOW IS I HOPE THE GUYS WE HAVE ARE NOT AS EGOCENTRIC AS THEY SOMETIMES SEEM TO BE
