Some of the posters here are a little too excited about Ming, for sure. In all likelihood, he'll probably have the success and career span of Mark Eaton or Rik Smits. That, of course, wouldn't be a bust at all.

As far as China goes: numerous American countries are doing business with China right now. Apart from the bribery they have to engage in, they don't encounter that many problems. China is fairly business-friendly, as authoritarian nations go; obviously dissidence and free speech are different matters entirely.

The big problem I have with Ming (I'd still roll the dice and pick him) is that ultra-tall, slight guys like him tend to be kind of gimpy: Sampson, Bol, Bradley, Bowie, Smits, Eaton all had relatively short careers, in terms of game played, due to injuries.

The only other option I'd consider is trading down for Dunleavy. He's the best 3 on the board, and with Francis, Mobley, and Griffin, you've only got one weak spot on the floor. And though Dunleavy's not going to set the league on fire, it's hard to imagine that he'll be a bust.

I personally disagree about Yao being a stud or impact player. There is no point, however, in arguing about it because none of us TRULY know how he is going to react to an 82 game season against the best players in the world. I'm just recommending that you don't say things like, "So, all you Yao haters out there, you will be eating crow when he starts tearing up the league."

I wouldn't be surprised if you haven't even seen him play. You can say the CBA is better than D-1, you can quote his stats, praise his fundamentals and height, but you won't know until the season is over. That is if he even makes it here and stays here.

All I hope is that Rudy and CD make the right decision. We have a great opportunity and I hope we make the best out of it. It really irritates me when so many people hate on Steve, Cuttino, Rudy, and the Rockets in general.

Are you all really ROCKETS fans? Just Ming fans???

I love reading all your "expert" insight about who's going to do what and what they're going to develop into, but that's what this BBS is for. Say I'll eat crow, say Yao will be ROY, say he will tear it up, but we'll see who has the last laugh

    Yao is soft as poo

    Faith?

    Intuition?

    'Gut-feeling'?

    Karma?

Is it a bad thing to feel this way?

I know, the next time my boss wants to hire someone, I'll say, 'But you've never seen him in action. Can he prepare a report, close a sell, prepare a presentation? Experience, MAN, we need EXPERIENCE!'

Of course, I may need to sleep on someone's floor for awhile after I share my 'wisdom.'

    :D ;)

First of all I do not hate Yoa at all. I think he will be an excellent project. Yes I said PROJECT. If you think he is gonna come in and average 20ppg and 20rpg then you are smokin' some of Mo's stash. He may very well turn out to be the best center in the next couple of seasons. Ming is a HUGE gamble. What happens when his contract is up and China starts to negotiate for a new contract that will put him in New York anyways? The Rox get screwed. I say trade the pick and avoid the hassle.

    Live,
No, it's not a bad thing to have instincts, gut feelings, intuition or any of these normal human functions or behaviors.

I am just saying it's too difficult for one of us on this BBS to say, "You are all going to be wrong about Ming."

That's why I say, I'll let the Rockets brass, the guys with the knowledge, the guys that have seen Ming in action and can identify and see that special talent o trait in him that makes him worthy of our number 1 pick, do the predicting.

I personally am not convinced and won't be until I see him play against NBA caliber players. Period.

He was there until the lockout started.

I will also say that Dirk learned most of what he knows now by playing in the summer leagues.

It might have helped, but he gives most of the credit to his personal coach, Holger Geschwindner, and of course the 82 games a season might also have played a role.

Holger was with Dirk when he spent all that time on the summer league squad. Yea, the 82 games a year didn't hurt either.

    Sir,

It has also been cited that Kiki Vandeweghe's skills camps with Dirk took him over the top.

Not surprising, because Nowitzki plays almost exactly like Kiki Vandeweghe. Now Nellie is going to have to teach him to pass, because guys like Kiki can only do so much in the NBA.

I couldn't agree more 03, and it's EXACTLYwhat I've been telling all these Odom lovers. Sure Lamar is special but potientially who is more special, my money is on Ming. Sure Bradley was a disappointment but he did set the single season block record for the sixers, and starting he has always been a pretty consistant 2 doub.

If the Chinese govt. makes this thing too sticky, I say let's move on, but hell, wasn't Ichiro under the same type scrutiny?

Nobody called Philly stupid in 93(?) although Bradley has been less than stellar, and no one will call H-town stupid, unless they are SOCCER FANS... UGH!!!!!!!!!!

this is a Peter V video from MSNBC. It has a short clip of Ming in it running down the court. It's not much but you can tell watching it that Ming is no sloth. He is a lot faster than I thought and a lot more fluid. This just makes me even more excited getting Ming.;) :D :D
