We should let Artest go this offseason, and get that guy from the projects. Maybe Morey can negotiate some kind of work-release program with the NY state penetentiary. Git R Dun Morey!
And he had 9 turnovers against Artest in his first game back against the Bulls. Bulls were pretty awful then as well. The one-on-one psychology is what I'm interested in. Dunno. My conjecture was based on Oakley's "don't give a F" status. From a Simmons column in which Simmons describes a retired Oakley still acting as bodyguard for a retired Jordan, even in a Vegas casino: This is how Oakley treated his teammates on that Bulls team: Jordan may have had seniority compared to Pippen, but even when Oakley went to the Knicks, in all those playoff series, I don't remember the two of them ever challenging one another / fighting. I believe Jordan was afraid of Artest because Jordan was supposedly talking his Jordan smack, Artest body-slammed Jordan, breaking two of his ribs, and Jordan didn't fight back. If you believe the legend, he then went out of his way to cover up the incident, lest his reputation suffer. And in interviews afterward, Jordan went out of his way to praise Artest. Sounds like he was scared of Artest to me.
This was hilarious, but Ron got pwnt by Chuck and C-Webb about his hair. lmao.. I love Inside the NBA.
Yeah but Jordan won the game and scored 29 points and had a much better game than a young Artest. 25% shooting for Artest. Maxwell and Jordan jabbered all the time, but Maxwell was never a dirty player. No ribs were broken, he played straight up D. I have no doubt that Jordan was not scared of Ron. Also you forgot about Joe Dumars playing good D on Jordan.
Turns out Jordan did say that about Artest http://vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1141436/index.htm
I know he did. And how many times do I have to say EARLY 90s?? February 11, 2002 Playing With Fire Ron Artest, Jordan's favorite Bull, has some of the master's passion
Thanks for sharing the MJ breaking his ribs story, that is priceless. What did Barkley & the guys TNT say, any video on that ? They will probably play this game all night tonight during the game, at halftime and in the postgame show. Craig Sager will probably ask about it again It's kind of sad that we didn't get the Artest we were expected to get. Even last year, Ron was way better and played much better in the post. It's only this year that he has started to throw up crazy threes and did not use his strengths as much as he did earlier. He used to be deadly in the post, everytime against the Rockets he would light us up with some great moves around the basket instead of going 1-on-3/4/5, fade away shots and terrible layup attempts. Where is that Artest ? The real Artest has showed up during double OT against the Jazz but that was about it. I just hope we get a glimpse of the Artest we wanted in the playoffs, because I do not think we will resign him.
they joked around about it. they put up charles stats as a Rocket which he average 16 pts/game and compared them to Ron's 17 pts/game also put that Ron was defensive player of the year and Charles led the league in turnovers or fouls in 85. Charles made fun of Ron's hair and Webber start laughing about it.
All you guys wanting to let Artest go after this season are going to be questioning yourselves after this next game. Artest is the Xfactor for this team and if you don't have a go to guy at the end of the game then you might as well have someone that can turn the tide. If we get to the second round this season nobody can deny that Artest and his defense is better then T-mac and his offense. And at least Artest makes this team a bit more interesting, he reminds me alot of Charles Barkley in his prime with all the trash talk. Now Ron just needs to start beating up the mascots.
Okay look at Artest's eyes look up and to the side... and down... he's lying and bull****ting for whatever reason. He's playing up sarcasm and is laughing with Shane right now.
as a side note, when Kenny/Charles were talking about the Spurs, they brought up Robert Horry again. Charles also brought up Cassell and Dream as one of the reasons he got beat by the Rockets. See Clutch City never dies! oh your signature, the irony is the 94 Blazers coach is OUR COACH!
Roy is not the best. All he does is pick n roll. Like i said, ANYONE can free themselves up for a shot with pick n roll. Do you ever see Roy posting up Artest one on one down low?? No!! Why, because he knows and his coaches know he would not be able to do a damm thing against Artest or Battier in a one-on-one no bullshyt pick n roll. So they had to rely on pick n roll all game long. This prove squat that Roy is a harder player to guard let alone harder than Kobe or LeBron.
Tinman, I just spent ten minutes looking back at the Chicago/Washington & Indiana/Washington gamelogs to prove an internet basketball point. (Results: Jordan had a few decent games, but owing to the quality of the three teams, they were mostly inconclusive.) I was just curious if anyone thought there was a correlation between sheer nuttiness (Maxwell, Artest) and efficacy in guarding Jordan. Sort of like Sonny Liston, then arguably the GOAT, was afraid of Ali (then Clay) because he thought Ali was crazy, and thus stayed down for the count. Maxwell swung freeweights at his own teammates during practice (if childhood memory serves, missing once, braining Herrera on a second occasion). He went after opposing fans twenty rows up (if what he claims was said was accurate, deservedly so). He fired handguns into the air at random stoplights. Illegally carried other firearms. Maxwell carried on 60-second diatribes in the faces of opposing players when they were waiting to shoot free throws. He knowingly infected innocent bystanders with herpes. He didn't pay up for his kids. Maxwell wasn't dirty? To children growing up in the Houston area, he was our dirty, maybe, but dirty nonetheless. Artest wasn't accused of slamming Jordan in that pick-up game because Jordan was outscoring him. Artest was accused of attacking him because Jordan was taunting him, making fun of Artest's rookie wage scale. Mad Max would have stood for this? Max wouldn't have waited for the next water break, grabbed the nearest potted plant or fifty-pound dumbbell, snuck up while Jordan was at the fountain and Herrera'd him? From the Daily Herald, after Jordan's Chicago return & 9 tos, "Jordan likes what he sees in Artest": Translating Jordan, to the assigned caseworker: "He hits me because he respects me so much. He just wants me to do better. He says he's sorry! I fell down some stairs. I fell down some stairs!"
I've gone on record saying I think Ron is crazier than Maxwell. Maxwell doesn't do random stuff like quit the Pacers cause he wanted to promote his record label. Maxwell also hit the right person in the stands. here's the MJ/Maxwell saga. As you can see, it was based on respect and curse words. http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl?id=1993_1108793 And, of course, The Maxwell Spell on Jordan continued. Two segments capsulized the entire game. The first came at the end of the first half. With the Rockets up 38-34 2:53 before halftime, Scottie Pippen (17 points, 7-for-17 shooting) was called for an offensive foul under the basket. At the same time, Jordan and Maxwell got tangled up and pushed off each other. The pair exchanged angry glares and even more angry words. Maxwell could be heard saying: "You're going down. You're going down." Jordan responded constantly, although his words were inaudible. Maxwell said Jordan elbowed him in the neck. "I just told him if he did it again, I was going after him," Maxwell said. What followed was three minutes of impressive one-on-one battling.
Oh remember when Reggie Miller was talking about Maxwell on the Dan Patrick show? he said he was a lock down defender... http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl?id=1993_1108793 Saturday Rockets 113, Pacers 100 All it took for the red-hot Rockets to fire up their eighth consecutive victory was Vernon Maxwell putting Indiana's Reggie Miller on ice. The last two times the Rockets had come to Market Square Arena, Miller scored 66 points in two Indiana wins. In this game, Maxwell held Miller to his worst scoring night of the season as the Rockets pounded the Pacers. Miller had only four points on 1-for-12 shooting. The victory pushed the Rockets to 22-16, matching their high-water mark for the season. They also were six games over .500 on Dec. 19 when they were 13-7. The Rockets' minister of defense has been -- and will be -- Hakeem Olajuwon. But Maxwell, who is learning he can be as vital to the Rockets on defense as he is offensively, has become an able sidekick to Olajuwon. Miller had reached double figures in every game this season before this game, but Maxwell was glued to him for two and a half quarters before Pacers coach Bob Hill gave up and pulled Miller.
Though I agree that Maxwell probably matched up better against Jordan than Ron Artest, one have to remember that Maxwell did have the luxury of having Olajuwon in the paint.
taht was the best part....barkley did say on the jim rome radio show earlier today that he doesnt take what ron says seriously and he likes him as a player, but there's something up with him upstairs.
