Okay it came out around 1998 or 1999 only for the PC as far as I remember. It looks similar to this game: http://totem-tribe.relaxlet.com/ The box cover had the same looking picture of a planet. It was a command and conqueror type strategy game where you would build up your area and then go and attack the other team or teams. You were led by a Chieftain woman who had special powers. There were some neat powers you could acquire and use like creating mountains or valleys out of the landscape. I remember some of the characters you could create could shoot fireballs. Not much to go on but I sure would appreciate any help....
D of D you rock!!!!! Yep that was it! I was so addicted to this game! Now I just need to hunt down a copy.

Just because that is more ancient doesn't make apps from the 90's any less ancient. The technology is obsolete.
The weird thing is the game is actually from 1989, which does make it pretty old in computer game years. I remember playing this in middle school, so I laughed when I saw the "1998 or 1999".
I remember my first computer game being on IBM in DOS, and it had somethin to do with calculating angles and velocities, and Gorillas throwin bananas at each other from across skyscraper tops. Also snake, and minesweeper along with solitaire of course. Then I moved onto Commander Keen and Duke Nukem. Then I moved onto NBA Live for PC and Starcraft. Then came the new age with all the crazy stuff. Man I miss the late 90s, where it took 1 week on 56k back in 99 to download my first ever movie on the internet, via napster. It was the Matrix. And it was great.
There were multiple editions of the game (like Civ). There was one released with the cover he's talking about in the late 90's. I never played it because it got mixed reviews. For those of you that played it, the game Black & White was the unofficial "next version" of Populous.
What about from ~1991 where you had to solve some sort of a mystery and work your way up a house into the attic or something. It was on Apple computer and I played that crap all the time. Is there a list of those somehwere?
What did it look like? Did it have a bunch of wire frame/stick graphics? Or something better? I keep thinking of 2 games... one I'm having trouble even remembering what it looked like, but I know it exists or a 2nd one that was a lot older than 1991.
Completely 2D, you could see a cutaway of the house and worked higher the further you got in the game.
