From being a shooting guard
and
being a PG that is playing with a Point Forward?

All this coming over that francis may want Odom
because of his Point Forward abilities makes me wonder
Why all the fuss of the label of being a PG?

Imagine. . on the break . . Odom in the middle. . . Francis on left
Mobley on the right. . . Odom with a alley oop pass. . . our
two stars crash into each other going for it . . .LOL
It is just a joke folx

I think a player like Odom would really help the Rockets. It would allow Francis to move more without the ball giving himself better scoring opportunities. It would also creat huge matchup problems witht he players trying to guard Odom, and Francis.

Why should the Rockets become the Phoenix Suns, i.e. a collection of wonderfully skilled players with a woeful frontcourt.

Yao may or may not be the answer to the frontcourt, but I can safely say that Odom would have minimum effect on the frontcourt, he's a perimeter player.

The point is. . . moving without the balll yadda yadda yadda
IS WHAT THE SHOOTING GUARD IS SUPPOSE TO DO!!

Why would he not be able to do that as PG in Vancouver
with people concentrating on Bibby?
or here with people concentrating on Jay Williams?

I'm not saying it isn't gonna help or be good
just that i don't see how being a pg without doing the pg job
is different than just being a shooting guard

I hope it's not a case of:

'I don't want to have to check a SG on defense, that's why I'm the PG.'

Or

'I know I can over-power any PG in the league, but SGs...'

I guess I'm just hatin' on Steve again.

I think a player like Odom would really help the Rockets. It would allow Francis to move more without the ball giving himself better scoring opportunities.

Steve isn't a catch and shoot guy and he doesn't really move well without the ball. His offense primarily comes off the dribble. Unless Francis drastically changes his game, I don't think that Odom is going to help Francis' offense that much.

If I'm coaching against Francis/Mobley/Odom, then I'm going to play that same soft zone that teams played against the Rocket's last year and dare them to beat me over the top. We had trouble last year when teams clogged the middle on us. I don't see how adding Odom would change that.

It would also creat huge matchup problems witht he players trying to guard Odom, and Francis.

I'm not following your logic here. Odom would still be guarded by small forwards and Francis would still be guarded by point guards, so how is this creating matchup problems?

Esp since Odom's outside shot is a little suspect
how is his ONE ON ONE ability?
How is it different than KT's?
or Francis's?
or Mobley's?

Well, if we got a point guard, like Jay Williams, or a shooting guard, Mobley would go back to the bench or be traded. If we get a point forward, all three could be on the court at once.

Why do you think Mobley said drafting Jay Williams would be a stab in the back? It wouldn't be Francis' minutes that would suffer, it would be his own.

DING, DING, DING!!

We have a 'WINNA'!!

If you have a chance to have 2 Steve Francis' (especially considering Clutch's comparison), would you?

aelliott makes some outstanding points in his thread, and I would hope that everyone take a subjective look at it.

Id like to add that another of the Rox inabilities lie withing their lack of defense. One on one, and team D. Steve and Cuttino are not going to stop anyone from getting theirs. After these last 3 years Ive come to the grips that they just arent going to be good defenders. Problem is that we have no one in the paint to
1. Be there when John Crotty decides to light up Steve going to the rim again.

2. Post players that hang with the elite Western conference big men. Not on offense or Defense.

Only Mo Taylor has the ability to make some of the elite Fowards in the west work on the defensive side, (Griffin isnt there yet). But hes not a stopper on the other end. If Steve and Cuttino get theirs, but in turn allow the other teams to basically match them in point output, we have to have somone who can from time to time stop some of the big men in the Western conference. Is Lamar Odom this guy? Ive only seen him play 3 or so times. But each time I came away with the thought of him as a swing player. A perimeter player to a smaller degree. I wouldnt mind having Odom on our squad, but not at the cost of getting serious frontcourt help. Namely at Center.
