Anyone here had this procedure? Did it make a difference? It's called a septoplasty. I'm gonna get it done after the Rockets playoff run ends. I hope to be a full fledged nose breather in a years time. I'm tired of my Jerry Sloanesque open mouth.
Amen! My girlfriend is constantly joking with me that I look like the kid on the bottom left in this video. I have a slightly deviated septum, and I'm always sitting there with my mouth open. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/34CGPY6QhDE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/34CGPY6QhDE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Update us on how it goes after the surgery. I didn't even realize I had it until a couple of months ago the ENT doc pointed it out. It doesn't bother me with normal breathing, but I do notice it now with physical activity and I guess I've pretty much always breathed through my mouth while sleeping. It'd be nice to get it fixed for that.
I had it done myself about 10 years ago and it made a world of difference. The only annoying part is afterwards you will have to wear nose splints inside your nose for a few weeks, and also have to take trips to your doctor to have him clean the inside of your nose because you will not be allowed to blow it. Having him twease massive chunks of buggers and snot out of your nose will be disgusting, but also kinda cool. I would definiately say go for it.
I had this done over the summer, the deviated septum was annoying me: everytime I freaking run or indulge in any kind of physical activity, my ears would clog up and my nose goes insane.. also: I used to sleep with my mouth open because I couldn't breath from my nose.. the reason why I finally decided to get it fixed, however, was the appearance of my nose..I broke it a while ago and I had a little Owen Wilson bone but twice as conspicuous.. It severely damaged my self esteem and it was really affecting my life adversely..that combined with the physiological problems it caused me made me decide to get it. the surgery wasn't bad, you're under full anesthesia so you feel absolutely nothing... when I woke up I was kinda drunk as hell and apparently called my mom, my grandma, and my aunt b****es and I claimed that I screwed my friend's mom (my friends came to visit me while I was under that state).. funny thing is, I don't remember saying A THING, and I wouldn't have believed it if they didn't catch it on tape lol.. the days afterward were hell, don't think it's simple.. it was ultra bad for me because I have an extremely sensitive stomach, so I threw up like no other as the anesthesia was leaving my system.. be prepared NOT to sleep at night because your nose is essentially completely blocked off and the little cast sits right on your face and it's annoying as hell.. after 2 days you get used to it though and all is good.. after you take the crap out, it feels like heaven, an almost orgasmic experience.. it felt so freakign good I can't even describe it.. it made me thankful for being able to breath from my nose.. my sleeping has dramatically improved now, my breathing is a million times better.. I still get the clogged ear when doing physical activity, but I guess that's unrelated and it's allergy or something.. all in all, good times..
WTF is up with the pessimistic stuff, man? Yeah, well, a doctor I saw for my allergies two years ago recommended I would break mine and fix a polip inside a nostril. He said that fixing the deviated septum would fix my snoring. I am still skeptical about that.
I didn't specify how it would end. I just said when it ends. I hope I don't get cut on until after the parade in downtown Houston sometime in late June. Because I'll be there.
I'm not waiting for the parade......I'm actually scheduled to have this same surgery next week.....and will then travel to Bali for recovery (even though the surgeon says after a couple days i'll be okay)......but anyways, he says it's a relatively simple procedure that only takes about an hour... I'm gonna miss the Rox/Fakers series!!!
I was scheduled to get it in January, but I chickened out... I read some horror stories, but I'll probably get it done this summer cause I've had enough of sleep with my mouth open, and not being able to actively breathe with my nose.
lady in six feet under died because of the surgery. sadly, that has pretty much prevented me from doing it.
I had the surgery done two years ago. It really wasn't that bad at all. I'm a pretty tough cookie, and I knew what I got myself into. Only thing is I was scared someone would punch my nose or it would get hit, but it never did after the surgery. I remember waking up and hitting on my nurse. Good times.
I'm pretty sure I have a deviated septum. Considering the insides of my nose, one cavity is bigger and the cartilage feels pushed to the side. I don't have any problems, but I can imagine that I could be breathing better. Around how much would surgery of this type be?
I had that surgery last August. It hasn't made THAT much difference. I'm allergic to mold which means my nose will be always stuffed. The ENT suggested for me to get a surgery to reduce my turbinates which are swollen due to allergies but I wanted to see how my septoplasty went. I'm disappointed but my nose is straight now so that's good. I messed my nose up lot as a kid. I'll probably get the turbinates surgery next year. Anyone experience this? Right now, I rely on saline nasal spray and nasonex nose spray. Recovery wasn't a piece of cake. Anthesenia wasn't a problem for me. Never threw up. Cool part was the passing out part even though I was terrified. Your nose will stuffed for like a week or two. They'll stuff ur nose with splints and you can't blow ur nose at all. Expect some lack of sleep and dry throat from breathin thru ur mouth. Good luck.
Wanted to point out that I will be getting my turbinates reduced as well. I am surprised your surgeon didn't just go ahead and do that.
