I have never seen this guy take the ball aggressively to hole as much as he has this series and really down the stretch of the season. He's still not a great finisher at the rim but he has been very crafty at getting his shot off. but he's not camping out at the free throw line. And secondly, since when did he become a shot blocker. 4 in game three. its like he's found of youth.
He has blocked many shots in the past, that's not new. But what I like most about this series so far is that Shane Battier has actually been useful defensively in this series. In the past 2 years against the Jazz, Shane has been useless defensively because the Jazz have/had no superstar scoring wing player like most teams do. I'm just glad he's stepping up when he's getting the chance too.
because honestly, everyone on our team seems kinda scared to drive consistently, besides Von. If somehow we could combine Kyle and Aaron into one person....
IMO, sometimes Shane gets to comfortable with/gets stuck in the rut of being just a role player (i.e. camping out in the corner in "his spot") and leaving the majority of scoring to our most prolific scorers. And very good (and smart) defenders like Shane often find themselves in good positions to contest/block shots.
If Shane would get his offense as good as his defense, or even just a little better, he'd be an entirely different problem. I'm hoping he's warmed up and will continue to be effective on offense. Very. Effective.
i think he just picked up his help D with Deke out, so he's getting an extra block or two helping around the rim....but yeah he's good for one a game most of the time... His offense isn't going to get better, this guys really does suck at making offensive moves that dont involve an open shot or layup, but he makes other things happen that still make him important...
Shawn battier is the same garbo on offense and sits in a corner and lives n dies with his 3 point shot. thats who shawn battier is
if you're trying to be funny by misspelling his name, I don't get it.. why do you come on a rockets forum and just try to incite?
That's great and all, i'm sure houston will take a look at him next year, maybe invite him to training camp, but the question was who is SHANE Battier...
See the good thing about shane battier is that if asked to he's a player that can give you that extra scoring when needed. He's a real good post up player and slasher and can hit the open 3. This guy averaged 20 ppg at duke for crying out loud
I agree, he's been sneaky smart getting to the basket. He's been effective a few times slashing w/ out the ball. You can tell Shane, Scola, and to an extent Yao, are picking their spots and moving. The other guys run around like chickens w/ their heads cut off or stop and stare on some plays.
Shane has been great since we got him. I know a lot of Clutch Fans wanted to crucify him for not putting points on the board, but his defense is unbelievable. He's basically negated any production out of Outlaw.
he doesn't get alot of blocks because he isn't as athletic as some, but his defense is just as effective, if not more, than a shot blockers, and we all know why. he is getting blocks from the weak side alot more now, which is evidence of his high iq, he knows how to rotate...props to shane man, he is the mvp of this series imo
we are averaging 3.2 blocks (4.3 in regular season) per game, Portland are at 7.2(4.9 in regular season) Portland want to win more.
