Wafer can match up with their wings......which are Brewer, Korver, Kirelenko & Harpring.

The only one that would give Wafer trouble is Harpring...bring in Battier for that.

Wafer makes the team better on offense, Ron makes it better on defense....but to me, we already have Battier on D...and when Wafer is in we don't get those long stretches of no scoring.

I disagree on this and the numbers on 82games support me. Artest and Battier give up 12.3 and 12.6 points respectively but Artest produces 17.7 points versus 11.8 for Artest. Only Yao has a better differential on the team.

Artest has definitely lost a step because of all the weight he has gained since the brawl so he can't stay in front of the fastest players on in league. However he still causes players lots of problems because of his fast hands and physical presence. The only player that doesn't seem to be bothered by him is Kobe, but he isn't bothered by anyone.

    Soooo...

This little 'problem' has finally bit us when it actually counted for something. Out of the playoffs? No...but maybe no homecourt.
Ron, at a pivotal point in the game' jacked up contested 3-pointers thrice in a row. And folks, save the 'Yao was being fronted' excuses. That's old. VERY old. Every dominant big man has been fronted defensively. The rest of the team spreads the floor and then learns to throw lob-passes over the top. Hakeem, Robinson, Ewing, Shaq...all of their teammates knew how to beat the little 'fronting' defense.

Our guys seem to not have the basic skills to understand the physics of passing.
And Ron...even in this situation...shoots contested 21 footers.

He is 6'7 and 260 pounds.
...And avoids the paint like it's poison.

sighhhh....ohhh, it's not really HIS fault.
See, he's supposed to have a coach to run the game.

    Oh well.
First bite...it may end up hurting us bad. But we're still in.
Point of no return, Rick. We're there.
    COACH YOUR TEAM.

Doesn't seem like he can or will stop! If Coach seriously had a problem with it, i'm pretty sure he would at least take Artest out of the game. I wonder if he will continue this nonsense next yr when he isn't playing for a contract...

    siiiiiiiiggggggghhhhhhhh.

i mean, you DO no it's probably cost us this game tonite....right?

and this isn't some reg. season joint that you can shrug off tomorrow morning.

    call ME crazy.
Adelman pulled Lowry out after about 3 minutes of rash decision making.
but for some reason, RON has the latitude to proceed at will.

    dang shame.
    cause THIS could be fixed.

dude seriously. i know this is unlikely but someone should at least talk to him.

if he can play half of what he say in the interviews, he will at least contribute to the team positively.

With Ron on the floor --> Rockets were -14
With Ron off the floor --> Rockets were +3

    Not much else to say.

It is funny how this thread is always bumped to the first page when Ron makes a couple bone headed decisions.

Artest has been flat out terrible in this series. If the Rockets don't make it out of this round then I think you have to let him go next year.

usually +/- numbers over 1 game are not a reliable stat, but you could just see his negative impact on the floor by watching the game.

Really, this dude has been horrendous in the playoffs. Just the kind of player we need.

Even IF we make the 2nd round, I'd still want his ass out of here, because we would have made it DESPITE his poor play.

Regular season aside, playoff Artest is like Shane Battier, stronger and also slower, better scoring ability in the post, but worse shooting, worse passing and worse basketball IQ.

He's 28 or 29 somewhere, I don't see him developing anywhere else. He's a great pick if he knows his thing, shoot when he's hot, play post game when he's not, and pass when he's stucked. Right now he looked a bit out there, after all he's only been with the team for one season, and Blazers playing really hard defence.

I'd rather see him getting blocked attacking the post, rather than iron a fadeaway 20 footer or 3 pointer. Those long rebound really hurts as they start other team's fast breaks. He should know that always going for the high % shots, don't just settle for jump shots, just do what the textbook says.

Defensively he's been great, and you can't really blame him that much for his passing game. You either have it or don't, and Artest isn't great at passing.

And one thing, just slap AB few times when the kid is dribbling out of control. Yao isn't tough enough to do that, he should.
