I can't figure out Sloan's defensive philosophy (if he has one). I think it's time for him to go but he'll stick around for more. Sloan strikes me as one of those guys who can't live without basketball, especially since his wife died.

As far as I can tell, Sloan's defensive philosophy is foul. The way his team runs their offense I don't know if they'll ever be good in transition defense, which JVG puts a lot of emphasis on.
Well, he is the only decent white coach available.. I doubt JVG takes that job, he has too much pride to coach a team with such a terrible fan-base.

It seems like a good gig for JVG, assuming they don't lose any major pieces. And, I think he has similarities to Sloan that fans would appreciate -- he's traditional, hard-nosed, wins at all costs, and lets basketball completely dominate his life. And, I'm not sure why people would think his family would object to SLC.
JVG's defense doesn't foul a lot. I am sure he would clean up the Sloan tactic in the past two decades.
I don't like sloan, but I think he is a much better coach than JVG. He has had one losing season out of 21 with the jazz. His system works even though it is cheap.
Instead of worrying about coaching, they should worry about getting better players. I doubt any coach could of gotten them past the Lakers.
That's true. By the time he coaches there, they will have completely different players and he would clean up their douchebaggery. I doubt he moves his family to Salt Lake though.
The ideal team for JVG would be with a prototypical PG who can be a true QB on the court, having a full understanding of the offense... as well as one who can hold his own defensively. Additionally, he wouldn't necessarily need a big man, but if he had one, he'd also need a PF that can shoot. Utah certainly fits all those criteria... they likely would be a much better defensive team than they are now (even though they're not that bad now... they just don't always make a commitment to rotation-help defense). He'd probably let D. Will run the offense without much interference (like he let Tracy do), provided that he's still setting people up for high percentage shots (which D. Will would likely do). They certainly have plenty of the athletic 3's and 4's that he loves to have available for hard double teams and rebounds. As a coaching move, it would be a great fit for him... but family wise, and long-term viability, probably not.
Defense wouldnt be a problem with Gundy in Utah. Jazz are not a soft team and would have no problem running Gundy's defense and slowing the game down. The problem would come on offense. Sloan has a history of getting the most out of his players because he fits them in his offensive sets. Sloan's sets uses a lot of player and ball movement which makes players like Shandon Anderson look a lot better than they rally are. It also adds unpredictability on offense which helps the Jazz. Gundy is very limited when it comes to offense. He will let Deron Williams run the offense full time and good teams will eventually just double him and take the ball out of his hands. Without Sloan's offensive sets, player and ball movements, Gundy's limited offense coaching will once again be exposed. Even if they dont double Deron, he is not going to carry the team all by himself (heck, Tmac at a high level couldn't do it) without the sets that Sloan uses which utilizes other players. I don't see how Gundy is an upgrade over Sloan. Change might be good for Jazz, but getting Gundy is not the answer.
I guess you didn't watch the series. If the refs treat the Rockets like they did the Jazz when we meet the Lakers we will be complaining just as much.
Maybe they should look at the players on the roster not named Deron Williams or Paul Millsap and rethink their position on wanting a coaching change.
Jazz fanz are morons. JVG could only coach Sloan/Jazz offense in his wildest dream. 1st, Sloan is not retiring. 2nd, Hornacek is waiting in the wings.
The problem is we would rather have Isiah Thomas the GM than Isiah Thomas the coach. Then the franchise would have a bunch of bad contracts and no drafts picks.
