hip hop culture and the nba have always been close.
This song is a good example

I believe it's because most of NBA players like rappers are black, and it's cool to be a baller also lol.

Hip hop has fallen harder than the NBA though.

Raw hip hop in that video and classic basketball.

They're connected, but I guess Stern sees that as too "thuggish" ?

Pac, Biggie and JMJ are no longer alive and mainstream hip hop has fallen deep, I guess hiphop fans are lucky there's such thing as underground.

And with all respect to Kanye's "Amazing" that's not a hip hop song, more like pop or in the best way with Jeezy hip pop.

I present to you the song that started it all:

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/7ONXjm7fyVE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/7ONXjm7fyVE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

That's the best I could find Universal stopped everybody with the actual music video from being able to embedding.
