It amazes me how many one-sided trade proposals are made by posters... What amazes me even more is that they think in the NBA, you can just "plug in" go-to guys onto any team, and voila, you're set.

It frankly does not work like that, especially in the Rockets case. The Rockets were probably the most perimeter oriented team in the NBA last year. With that being said, a major philosophy change will be needed for a PF of any worth to have any success. Obviously if we ran the same offense we had last year, the PFs role would be to watch Francis dribble around. It's hard to get 20 and 10 from watching the dribbling clinic.

Some questions that need to be asked are...

How many big men would want to play for us? I'm sure that when that big man played for the Rockets, he realized that defensively, he didn't have to worry about the team doing anything inside. Rudy will have to do a major convincing job to whatever big man we bring in.

Will our guards be able to adapt to a big man? Will they realize that dribbling the ball around while the big man calls for the ball, is team turmoil waiting to happen?

Our guards are not pass-first guards, so it is hard for me to imagine a PF/C who can score, thriving in Houston.

A complete 180 will be needed for us to utilize a big man to his potential.

I agree with you! In fact this is the most constuctive and important Thread on the BBS in the last month or so! This Thread is the basic starting point for our new Team. If the Rockets Coach is not thinking this way then only Francis and Mobley will shine and the Team will never produce Championship ball in the near future! I urge all Fans of the Rockets to press for TEAM BASKETBALL in 02/03

Kidrock, that is why an Odom type of player is so critical for the Rockets. Somebody that can run the offense for us, that think pass first. Somebody has to break Rudys ISO system. I think if we do get a center, they will have real problems getting the ball.

Its also not just Francis. Mobley & Moochie are to blame as well.

How can we really know how the Rockets would react to having a dominant big man who demands the ball when this team hasn't seen one yet? Olajuwon in his short burst of excellent play two seasons ago is the closest we've seen, and the Rockets thrived winning 16 of 20. Our guards will pass the ball if they have someone worthy of passing it to.

actually this thread isn't that much different than any other threads so far.
in fact i think this is a few months too late.
our guards dont pass inside thing, wasn't this supposed to be discussed during the season? now is outrageous trade and draft talk time.

fba-I know it's been said that Francis doesn't pass, yatta yatta. That isn't my point... My point is why people haven't mentioned (that I know of) or seemed to have thought that not everyone we think are good players are good fits.

The problem with Odom, is that he is the type of guy who needs the ball in his hands. That might be the last thing we need. At least from the SF position. In Rudy's offense, the SF is a shooter first, and a shooter second. Odom is not a shooter. Odom is a poor man's Pippen, and we all know how well Scotty did.

If we're going to get a guy who needs the ball in his hands, then I would rather have that guy be a PF or C.
