I just heard on Fox Sports Net reports out of Denver that Antonio McDyess is now officially on the trading block and that the Nuggets would like to make a deal before the June 26th draft. I guess him not joining the team in Italy was bigger that we thought. Should the Rockets be making a serious run at McDyess now that the Nuggets have gone public with their desire to trade him?
ESPN Insider: The Nuggets continued to move further away from Antonio McDyess's one time "untouchable" status. Assistant GM David Fredman said on May 28 the franchise has no untouchable players. "I'm basically saying that it's possible, but we're not initiating anything," Fredman told the Rocky Mountain News. "We'll listen to whatever anyone has to offer, but we're not trying to trade McDyess." The Nuggets fear that McDyess, who becomes an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2003, isn't planning on re-signing
That was yesterday, what I heard today is official word from the Nuggets management. I think the rockets need to take a serious look at this considering the Nugz also have the 5th pick in the draft.
McDyess, Posey & #5 for Rice, EG, Collier and #1 OR McDyess & #5 for Rice, KT, Norris & #1, perhaps. I don't see much else potentially in the ballpark involving us and them (the only Nugs of any value are McDyess--who is coming of an injury, and the OK but less than spectacular Posey), remember the Nugs want to shed salary (kind of precluding them taking Mo or Cato with their longer term deals). I would expect someone like the Knicks to be a lot more desperate and provide a better offer to Denver.
That would be a good trade and one that would satisfy salary cap demands I believe. The Nuggets would like the fact that Rice's contract ends fairly soon along with their other big contracts. This would allow them to get Jay Williams and have him be a major piece in their rebuilding. The Rockets would be able to use McDyess as their center and still draft Caron Butler to shore up the 3 spot. I'd still like to find a way to get Odom, but this would definitely be a nice trade for the Rockets.
No way that we inclued Eddie in that trade!!! Look, McDysse is good, but all I'd do is our first pick and Collier plus Langhi for him. Then the Rockets would also have to have a deal ready to move Taylor, as he is our current starter. But, Taylors value might not be too high considering not many teams went out for him when he was a free agent. He's a weak rebounder. Plus he's just coming off a season ending injury. Not to mention the 5 game suspension for drug abuse. Ming Taylor Griffin Mobley Francis That could be our championship team in 3 years. Play Griffin as our SF until his body grows into a power forward.
Whether Dice is a 4 or 5 really makes no difference, the Rockets need a dominant post presence. If you can get that and possibly unload Rice's contract, makes perfect sense to me.
Dice is to short to play 5 in the WC. If he was a legit center this trade would be great, but he isn't. Dice can only play limited minutes at the 5.
I totally agree! Any time you can add a dominant big man you jump on it. It doesn't matter if he is a 4 or 5. Who cares how many PF's we have now? One is a tweener, one is a second year player who has showed no post up game whatever and the other one is coming off a major injury. I would rather have Brand but if McDyess is healthy and passes a rigorous physical (more rigorous than the one Rice past) then I would be happy with him. If Denver would throw in the #5 with him I would take that over Brand.
Antonio McDyess would fit in perfectly with this team. This trade would actually work: Moochie Collier Taylor #1 overall (Jay Williams) for McDyess #5 (Caron Butler) Whether or not Denver is dumb enough to accept it is another story....
No argument except that the Nuggets place a high premium on the cap space they will get when Juwan Howard expires next summer. From the Nuggets viewpoint, KT would be on the table because of his small, short contract. The question to wrestle with is which is the better front court: Cato + Dice or Ming + MoT Before I got to deep in this, I was reminded that aelliott has already mentioned that many teams have better packages than the Rocks including Cleveland which could offer Miller. Although I like Dice, I just don't see it happening.
Even if we moved KT and Rice, that is still 3 power forwards on the roster all capable of starting. Our two positions of need are small forward and center. Trading for McDyess addresses neither and only serves to further complicate a murky position.
Jeff, didn't Clutch's sources contradict that? I distinctly remember him saying the Rox are looking for a 4 - for reasons he wasn't himself sure of, but that they were.. In other news, if we got the # 5 and Dice for Kt, Rice, #1 -- We could deal the #5 for odom? or #5 and fillers...
