I thought I was imagining that, but I noticed him say something that I thought was similar to what you thought. I wanted to start a thread about it, but had no idea if I was reading (lips) too much into it...
Yao is not my hero. I don't have a hero, if anyone, Dream would be closer to Yao. But really, basketball players are not that high up on any heroic list. But it's really amazing that you are unhappy that I replied your post about Yao. If you don't want to, nobody is forcing you. I see, only negatives about Yao is allowed in your mind. The pattern is so clear for some of the posters. After game 1, when Yao was perfect in first half, didn't get a shot in the second half, while he was not fronted at all. I guess he was a big enough target. But no, some posters would act so offended if concerns was brought up - i can't believe you guys, Rockets won big, you want to talk about Yao's touch. After game 2, when Yao only got 6 shots, and we lost. Same posters acted again so offended when Yao's touches were brought up - i can't believe you guys, this is a team game, Yao can contribute otherwise. If they want to shut down Yao, so be it. After game 3, when Yao only got 7 shots, and we barely won. You and the same group came here acted offended again, as usual - why it's about Yao? We won, others stepped up. Yao should have made himself a bigger target for a professional NBA playoff starting point guard to pass to him. BTW, if you missed. Rick said, when Yao had his defender behind him, he's HARD TO MISS, I don't understand why we didn't go to him. You can enlighten Rick as why. For you and a couple others, it's a taboo to talk about Yao's touch, whether after a win or loss, whether Yao got the ball or not, whether Yao was open or not. All in the disguise of interest in Rockets team, as if Yao is the biggest distracting factor of the team. Too bad Clutchfans site is not owned by you, you can't make the rules here. BTW, your acting sucks.
Guards don't have to pass to Yao directly, they can pass to forwards at the side, and then pass to Yao. It doesn't take a Magic to pass the ball to Shane at the side, only if guards want to do it. Guards can get Yao the ball by penetration, if they want to. But they'd rather throw up prayers against 7 footers. Any guards can get Yao the ball with Pick and Roll, if they want to, but most of the time, some certain guard prefers to be trapped at the corner then throw up a prayer rather than pass back to Yao. It's on both parties, with Yao's physical shortcomings. Yao can't become as fast as Amare, no matter how hard he try. But a simple pick and roll, high low, pass to side to at least create a chance to further pass to Yao, those can be done when any NBA guard wants to.
First off sir... I'm not the one too care about how many touches Yao gets, as long as the team WINS. Now what gets to me is all the posters b****in about how Brooks is not getting Yao the ball... The point that i'm making is that it's not all Brooks fault. Yao still has a problem sealing his man off, establishing his position early and being able to move and catch the ball (that's not directly thrown at him). I've said it before and I will say it again... I hope they trade T-Mac and Yao so this site can be back to being a Team site and not an individual site. I am sick of all the Yao and T-Mac only fans.
Oh sir if it were only that easy. You see that team wearing the black jerseys over there??? Yeah, they are standing in between the ball and Yao making sure he can't get it. If we do try to get him the ball under those circumstances and the pass isnt perfect(and sometimes even if it is) that team over there will likely take it away and start running the other way looking to score.
For some reason they think that the other team is suppose to just let them pass the ball to who ever they want...
so i guess all these passes yao did receive and catch in the past 7 years were all magic-like, perfect ones, huh? correct. but tell that to the other member.
YAO NEEDS A TALL TEAMMATE TO PASS HIM THE BALL, PERIOD. A shortie pg and an immobile Yao would never mesh well. Shane is the only person on this team who can do it on a consistent basis.
JVG is certainly a smart man as suggested by some of his astute comment as a sideline commentator. But I don't agree that you should trash Nate Mcmillan just because he did 2 things differently from what JVG has noted. If you go by such logic that a few errors made a coach bad or expendable, then our own Rick Adelman should be accounted as horrible as well. McMillan has done an outstanding job this year coaching this young Blazers team to playoff homecourt advantage. I think it will be very easy for JVG to point out some excellent strategies of how to play and defend well against the rockets because he coached us for 4 years. He knows our weaknesses very well because he had been devising strategies to counter our opponent trying to take advantage. It is just like that Dallas-Golden State series from 2 years ago. Don Nelson just knew all too well on how to expose the Mavericks.
People are so fickled. Last week Nate was the god of coaching, now he is the opposite. Fact of the matter is he is neither. It's a 7 game series, you have to allow the coach to try different things. 1) 1st game, 1st half, Nate played straight up and got destroyed. Bad move to be sure but not a single person on this planet, you included, could have predicted that Yao could be perfect in that half. Nate changed up and went to a double team in the 2nd half. We did not see it much because Yao did not play much. 2) 2nd and 3rd games. They doubled Yao mostly before the catch, the rest after. They won 1 game, lost 1. I didn't see anyone jumping up in Nate's face when he won. 3) If you think Portland could play Yao with a simple front then you are mistaken, badly. They don't have the players to do it like some other teams do. If you'd watched the games we played Portland, regular season included, and paid attention to a few plays when those guys did get caught overplaying Yao with no help from behind, you would have known. Przybilla is not all that fast himself, he can not get around Yao fast enough to front and then get back if Yao roll to the basket. Oden is about the same. LM is too light, plus they don't want to waste his energy on defense, they can't put the others on Scola or Landry either. A simple front by any of these guys might work for a play or two but to do it in a 7 game series is suicidal. Yao has always done well against teams with real big men. You don't think all those coaches are stupid to not know to front Yao with that one man if they could, do you?
i have no idea how you concluded that i think nate mcmillan is a bad coach or that he didn't do a good job coaching the blazers this year from the statement that he has been outcoached thus far.
Believe me, people making millions can be fools at times too!! JVG was blamed because he was a fool on things which RA isn't. And this sentence could still be true if you switch 'JVG' with 'RA'.
You claim you are a Rockets fan, like some others here, but you guys are so pissed when Yao or Tmac is talked most on the team and on this board. They are the so-called franchise players, if you don't like that term, they are the max-paid players, they are the faces of this team, they are the ones put up most offense in the team when they play. Threads about Dream are plenty, threads about Clyde are far far less, and most of them were about his broadcast job. Why do you have problem that the majority threads are about Yao or Tmac? Yeah you want them traded away. That's Rockets tradition, right? We sent Ralph away, we sent Dream away, we shipped out Steve, now it's TMac's turn, and Yao's days are numbered as well, according the board. 7 years in, so many so-called Rockets fans are still arguing whether he "deserves" the all-star team, in the name of Rockets team, what a joke. If someones says they don't care about Yao's touch, only care about the win. They are lying. There is strong relevance between Yao's offensive output and team success. There is PERFECT (not just great) data to backup why Yao gets going the team gets going. When he scores 20+, the team is almost unbeatable. In the small sample size even in this year's playoff. Game 2 & 3, are where Yao didn't get involved enough, we lost one and barely squeezed out one win. The loss came after we scored 100+ points and shot a 50% on the road. When was the last time when Yao got involved, we shot 50% and then lost? The home win came after a Blake's brain fart and Rockets almost perfect FT shooting in key moments. Why do we want it to be that hard? If you don't care about his touches, you seriously just want to sacrifice team success for whatever personal agenda you hold. You call yourself Rockets fan? I don't understand why so many people want to reinvent the wheel, while the winning formula is written on the wall, announced by every NBA commentator, every coach, every opponent's game plan, and TEAM result. Just because they care about the team more? They are closer to professional comedians than to Rockets fans. People complain about JVG's predictable offense. With only 2 offensive players in TMac and Yao, they lost in 7 against Dallas who went to the final later; they lost in 7 against Utah who went to WCF later. We hung with them tough, because we played inside out consistently, because we play our games, not letting opponents to direct our game plan, because we don't rely on inexperienced players being super smart to adjust game plan on the fly. We lost those 2 series not because we force fed anyone, but because we didn't have 3rd scorer. All the excuses how we shouldn't force feed Yao. Since when have we force fed him no matter how? Show me one game that AB force fed Yao and sacrificed the team win or personal turnover numbers. You are worried that AB might force feed Yao? It's like a new driver, who gets speeding ticket almost every single day, under all kinds of road conditions. You are worried that he might drive too slowly on the highway to jam the traffic? Yeah, you are really caring about the team.
Man you keep quoting me, but your replies has nothing to do with me or what I have been saying. First off, yes I AM A ROCKETS FAN.. BEEN ONE SINCE they were playing in the Hofheinz Pavilion (they didn't start off in the Summit).. I don't dislike Yao or T-Mac... I dislike the FANS that ONLY cheer for those two and get pissed when there player doesn't get enough playing time, touches, shots, etc.. Basketball has been and will always be a TEAM game. As far as sending star players out, the NBA is a business.. Not a Social Event or Club it's a Business. Now as far as Ya as an all-star... All-Star to me in this day and time is a joke... Not just with Yao with all Sports.. It's not about if you earned it; it's about popularity. Now as far as Yao being a Super-Star.. in my opinion he's not. At this point of his career he's not in that 10 or 15 greatest Centers and neither is Dwight Howard. First off... I hate stats, they never tell the true story about a game or a player. Stats will never tell the true story and wealth for such players as Robert Reid and how he played Defense or Otis Thorpe on how he helped so much on the weak side with his defense and rebounding or even with Shane Battier and his hustle plays. Stats are a joke. Now i've said this before and I will say it again.. I COULD REALLY CARE LESS HOW MANY TOUCHES YAO GETS!!! Basketball is a TEAM game.. Again I am from the old school before you had all of these marketing stars instead of basketball stars. The Rockets can actually roll 8 or 10 deep; Using your so called STATS... Any given player can get hot and back in the day when you got a player that was HOT you rode him until he died out. Take for instance Yao on the first game he was unstoppable do you ride that Horse until he dies out; Ron Artest is off and on, so when he's on you feed him. You don't sit there and say.. Hey I have to pass the ball to Yao because statiscally It shows that we have to get the ball to him 40 times we will win; even if Ron Artest is on FIRE!!!! Read my statements above.. The wheel does not have to be reinvented; but every once in a while it has to be readjusted, resized and rethreaded. Basically it's like this, in a 7 game series teams will make adjustments and the Rockets have to make adjustments also. As you stated above "Every one say's to feed Yao" don't you think the Trailblazers know this also. So a good Coach and Team will make adjustments and one of two decisions: A) Take the star player out of the game B) take the role players out of the game. Most teams go with "A", so in this case when the defense is fronting Yao and we all know that's the best way to defend him, the Coach has to make adjustment and sometimes that means going to option "B" which is not Yao. I will not even get into Yao's strength and weakness. Tell me once where you have heard me say anything about Force Feeding Yao??? I have basically said the same thing as BUCMAN.. That passing the ball to Yao down low is a 2 man deal and the responsibility is on the receiver as well as the passer. Basketball is a TEAM game, a game about adjustments and utilizing ALL of your players and their skills correctly... Not about just Yao or T-Mac.
