I read the OP's post a couple of times before I decided to give my .02 cents...

This has been stated before, but let me say it one more time....

Passing is a two-way deal.... You have the passer and the catcher. Now there are times when the person who is passing the ball messes up; but the catcher has to do his part also.

    1) Catch the ball (obvious) - Every pass is not going to be perfect.

    2) Be able to seal the person off that's guarding you (can't pass the ball if there's no angle or pathway)

    3) Have some lateral movement (see 1).

Everybody has to do their part (again this is why it's a TEAM game, not an individual game).

Not possible because Brooks never passes to Yao.

There were a lots of occasions last night where Yao was open and Brooks could have passed it to him. Brooks is afraid or is incapable of passing to him. A lot of the chances came in first. There was also a chance before Brooks missed the jumper and than went at Oden for layup in missed late in the fourth.

Also for those passes, it is the passer and Yao's fault. This is another being about being patient. Yao had the position but you have to wait until he is ready to catch it. That also means Yao has to be ready quicker. When you get position, you cant expect Yao to just stand still and not lose ground. The defender behind him is constantly trying to force Yao out. So Yao has to keep backing into the defender just to maintain his position. Once Yao is finally ready to accept the pass and is more balanced, then he can go after passes that are not directly at him. Yao is a big oaf, so the passers need to wait a little to see if he is ready for it.

A lot of make it seem like Yao should be unmovable. You should know by now that is not the case.

Problems that I see with Yao and Brooks on the court together:

Scenario 1: Brooks dribbles the ball to the top of the key and then proceeds to stand there dribbling the ball for 10 seconds before initiating the offense. All the while, Yao is running around expending energy trying to beat the front. Having run 10 seconds off the shot clock, Brooks moves and positions himself to where Yao is. Yao is still being fronted. Brooks gives Yao about 2 seconds to beat the front. If Yao is unable to establish position in those 2 seconds, Brooks decides to go one-one-one.

Scenario 2: Post play is run for Yao. Brooks positions himself for the entry pass to Yao. Brooks gives Yao about 2 seconds to establish post position. Having patiently waited for 2 seconds, Brooks swings the ball to the other side of the court and Yao becomes an afterthought.

Scenario 3: Same as scenario 2, except Yao is able to beat the front in 2 seconds and has position. Brooks hesitates for 3 seconds, Yao loses position. Brooks then either goes one-on-one or swings the ball to the other side. Yao becomes an afterthought.

Scenario 4: Same as scenario 3, except Yao maintains position. Brooks decides to go one-on-one.

Scenario 5: Same as scenario 4, except Brooks swings the ball to the other side. Yao is an afterthought.

Scenario 6: Same as scenario 3, except Brooks actually passes the ball to Yao. Yao scores. This scenario occurs about 1/6 of the time.

How hard is that for people to understand? The game 1 was a unexpected because yao has struggled all season with portland. 16ppg on 41%, but the rox almost swept them. Like u mentioned, the only thing yao can control is his rebounding, shot blocking and intensity.

Developing a mid range jumper would make him deadly. It would open his game so much more.

Funny thing is if Aaron actually had any kind of issues with Yao personally or just not wanting to pass him the ball(basically telling the coach screw your offense) he would be yanked. Adelman yelled at him at the end of the first half last night because he wanted him to initiate the offense earlier because they had a foul to give. Not because of his refusal to run the play. That was an inexperience mistake.

Aaron may have missed Yao getting brief position, but so did Artest, Battier, Lowry, etc.... It aint just the PG. Its all of them, including Yao for not giving a better target.

I want to see Lowry in with Yao. Scola set the pick high for Lowry. Lowry drives. Lowry creates contact with Yao's defender who is fronting him. Lowry gets the foul, the free throws, and possibly the bucket. Or...........Oden/Przybilla leave Yao to help and Lowry gets the ball to Yao for the dunk. Or Lowry drives past Yao's defender, another defender comes over to help and Artest or Shane is open for the 3 ball.

Lowry is much more aggressive than AB at driving to the basket and creating the contact. He needs to be paired with Yao for awhile to get the bigs in foul trouble and get Yao going. The way the officials are calling/not calling this series, there is going to be no way to get Yao the ball in the post because Oden/Przybilla are constantly fouling him. I mean constantly. They foul him every second of the possession practically with no call. So, with that in mind, we need to try Lowry with Yao, set the high screen for Lowry, let him drive and create the contact.

So Aaron Brooks being on the floor with Yao does not give the Rockets open shots?? Also, Lowry was on the floor in the 4th quarter with Yao from about 9 minutes til about 4 minutes. Yao did not score, Lowry however scored 5 points. If Von Wafer does not go 0 for 4 with a turnover the Blazers dont get back into the game. If Aaron Brooks would have had a stretch like that towards the end of the game he would have been crucified on here.

They can coexist if Yao sets the pic on the wing floats to baseline and AB's goes middle looking for Yao. The problem is that they force this baseline and Yao doesn't float to free throw line, he stays stuck where he set the screen instead of moving to the open spot at the free throw line elbow

some of yall are out of control...Magic Johnson couldnt get yao the ball last night...He's was fronted and played behind, and everytime he got the ball, he was swarmed like chicken at a fat man's family reunion...Forcing the ball to yao would have been an epic failure... There is no way chris paul could have gotten the ball to yao, and yao would have been effective being guarded like that. At some times, you can tell yao was frustrated and didnt fight hard for position because his efforts was futile

Really? That is funny you mentioned Magic because Feigen brought him up as well. Apparently he thinks the teammates didn't do a best job they could to get Yao the ball.

Actually Feigen echoed what untraceable said. Rockets didnt have a passer the quality of Magic to get the ball thru those miniscule holes in the defense. Basically saying don't put so much stock on the fact that there were tiny openings for split seconds. Its not like Yao was sitting there having a cup of tea with Oden on his back talking on the phone, and the Rockets went elsewhere. I think some(and not you wire) are saying that the Rockets chose not to make the "easy" play and get the ball to Yao. Feigen basically says thats not the case.

lol@ cup of tea, but its the truth...Some of those passes to yao would be impossible to make....

Unless real life was like Nba live 99', and you can just pass the ball thru the chest of a defender, and not get it stolen...Then yao would dominate

I wonder how many play NBA Live and think, well if its in the game its in the game. And in the game I can throw the ball to Yao regardless of the defense.

Its sad, but I know they are out there....They would rather yao go 13-15fg's and we lose, than yao scoring only 6 and we win

If Yao doesn't develop a mid range game, he can be shut down by every team in today's NBA. It's not because of the PG. We've had how many PGs in the last few years? And we've always had the same problem. The truth is that Yao is simply too slow and unathletic to be effective against fronting D. With his height and his shooting touches, I don't see any reason why Yao can't make a 15 footer consistently.

AB is an angel. At least he can get the ball in the paint and score there.

Yao just needs to make sure and keep getting his early, then concentrating on the defense late. If he can ever learn to be in the right frame of mind to catch a lob, he'll get even better late.

i think they need to use Lowry more when yao is on the floor...he just runs the offense a little better....brooks is good at creating a spark with his offense....lwry seems to work better with yao....to me brooks woudl be better coming off the bench and getting some offense going...when you have yao out there, you need to run the offense thru him instead of Brooks trying to drive it 3 on 1 to the basket......
