I think he will be the NExt Walt Williams without the defense 6~8 pts a game 3~6 Rebs 2 Assts .5 Steals .25 Blcks Rocket River
The only reason we took on Rice was to get rid of Anderson while we woulc retain a player in equal salaries and equal/above potential. However, I would like to get rid of him with his salary as well.
To be honest, I give Rice about a 25% chance of playing more than 10 games next season. I think he'sone of the best 3-pt shooters of all time, which is why I couldn't understand how bad he was doing early in the season. I understand when you get old you lose your quickness and a lot of other things, but how can one of the best shooters of all time lose his shot? If Rice wouldn't have gotten injured, I don't think there's anyway Rice's poor shooting would have lasted the whole season. It just doesn't make any sense.
Hopefully he will be injured all season long so we can start seasoning younger SF's who will replace him soon.
He will be consuming 10 million of the available salary cap. We did not have to take him TR- we could have let Shandon Anderson walk. Instead, we used most of the room made available from Olajuwon to take on this broke down old player.... Why would we be willing to pay 10 mil to Glen Rice, but not pay 8mil for Olajuwon?????
If we bought out Glen Rice's contract, would it still count against the cap? The reason why I am asking is becuase I don't have a good feeling about Rice playing too much next season. How about some Maurice Taylor predictions?
Rice will attempt to play 10 games and then get injured. Then he will proclaim i really love playing in Houston while collecting 8 million.
dont worry about rice's contract. after next year, there is only one year left 'till he becomes a free agent. maybe we will get lucky and he will be forced to retire during or after next season because of injuries.
Rice could benefit from Ming's high post passing to perform effectively in limited minutes. He would be better served with picks, curls and switches, than with spacing, IMHO. He is not likely to run well, so he will either need picks or a double team on another player to get and open look. As a defensive liability, he will want to funnel his player into Ming or Griffin, and we will want him to switch between the 2 & 3 on defense to "guard" the opposing team's worst player. I would hate to see Rice, Francis and Mobley on the court together, defensively. Free jumper, anyone? Rice can also benefit from Taylor's passing. I would likely set Rice up on the weak side at the elbow, and swing him to the top of the arc, or to the corner, with a step inside to 20 ft preferable, when available. If the Rockets can make two passes on the way to Rice, he should be able to score 12-15 pts a game, just on good, open shooting. If they will not, he can still likely score 8-10 ppg, just on dumps and garbage.
