Gotta keep Ron Ron if we want to have a shot next year... Despite his shot selection, he still is a great player. His defense gives us a special suation where we have two great defenders on the wing, something no other team in the NBA has.

We'll have leverage in contract negotiations. The only other teams that are going to want him are other similar "win now" type contenders. It's not like the Grizzlies are going to enter the bidding war for him.

I don't think it's even a question. If you don't resign him who do you have next year? No Tmac, No Artest.... I don't think so.

Re-sign Ron for a reasonable 3 year deal which I think he'll take, trade Shane next year during the season and then we'll have the cash to go after one of the big dog free agents of 2010 to pair with Yao & Ron.

i think rockets have high chance to re-sign artest
but i dont think rocket will offer a contract > 10m.
if artest can find some other team give him big contract,
    we should let him go.
in fact, 2009 is not a good year for free agent...

    Sounds about right.

I haven't been this frustrated with a player in a long time.

Purely aside of whether he should or shouldn't, I can't imagine Morey letting a significant asset walk. He'll be signed, I believe, even if he is traded.

I don't see him getting any decent offers unless a team that feels they are realistically one guy away from winning it all have the cash. I don't know if any team like that even has the cash to offer him. I think he will get the already mentioned 4 year deal with the 4th year being a team option at about $7-8 million per.

Ron likes her and this club and fans like him. Let focus on the game, and discuss this after all is end.

Ron is a born competitor, a suitable compliment to Yao.
Keep him if we can but at resonable price, more than 10mil/yr is unacceptable for me

I wouldn't go more than 7 mil. His shot selection is terrible and his D has slipped. He gambles for the steal way too much.

Any body on this bored that doesn't want to resign him is not a basketball fan. this guy gives the rockets a toughness that they need he brings defense hustle and the heart every nba player should play with.

Only for one year. I beleive he can fit with Tracy McGrady in the team. Ron can get his wish to be a spot up shooter.

at the start of the season, i read in a thread here that ron would resign for 13m. so i think he would sign for around that money (give or take a couple of mil)

Half of nba team have financial problem this year
and need to ask stern for money.
I dont want rockets to be one of them.

The Rockets are in a good position. Nobody is going to go significantly above the mid level exception for Artest. The Rockets won't have to.

The biggest basketball fan I know of on the board is probably A_3PO, and I don't think he wants to bring him back.

I think you need to re-read the article. They are saying they wouldn't have reservation for a mvp type caliber person but Ron isn't that person.

To not re-sign Artest means you are expecting a McGrady comeback and/or another offense option. Simple as that. And even then, Artest should be back (if the price is right).
