My cousin gave me her old Dell desktop. I cannot remember the model and all that but I believe it is a Dimension and it was purchased early/mid 2000s. Whenever I turn the computer on the monitor does not come on. The lights on the motherboard, the fans, and everything else comes on. I purchased a PCI slot video card but when I installed it, no video came on. I have tried re-seating various components on the motherboard, scooshing it out , and a different monitor but all with no luck. Any ideas on what to try next?
Yes, there is a video card built into the motherboard but when plugged in nothing comes up on the screen.
When I first got the computer I hooked it up normally, monitor to mother board VGA input. When the screen never came on, I got a PCI slot VGA card and tried it but it still did not work.
I stopped reading at scooshing to prevent vomiting. Return the PCI card and rig up a new motherboard. The Dell will fight it with problems fitting the power button and some other stuff, but it will work.
Well yeah but the cheapest route would be to find the cheapest possible MB that fits your CPU and RAM. I have seen them for 20 bucks, but I am not sure of your CPU.
just find out the CPU type then find the cheapest match, although my official advice is to dump it, or buy a CPU/MB/RAM combo.
