but his defender can also slide in front of dream. it means the position will become further out as they change the position. however, dream doesn't have the problem if he gets the ball beyond 15 feet. dream has pg type foot work and pf type body plus that illegal defense rule. illegal defense rule makes fronting defense extremely vulnerable. lob pass can kill fronting defense easily. nowadays, it becomes tough to beat fronting defense after the rule is invalid anymore.
in scola's defense, he still shot 50% last night. true, he didn't play spectacular, but still decent. the thing is, though, when we attack (key word) from the other side, we need to drive to the basket more and take less jumpers. 1 that's higher % and has chances to draw fouls no matter what the refs are calling (or not), 2 that way yao has a better chance to get the rebound. jumpers, especially 3's are harder for a center to get the rebound.
i still believe their 50+% fg is the key to the rox loss. as we all know, rox is a half court offense team with strong defense. if our defense can't hold other teams, it normally means we are going to lose the game.
choujie, I'm not blaming the entire game on Yao, not even close to it.. as a matter of fact, my entire point is to NOT blame anyone for the loss, it was just a bad night, that's it.. Roy and Aldridge won't go for 42 and 27 on 50% + shooting every night, and we won't suck as bad as we did last night.. however, saying that "the turning point" of the game was Artest not passing the ball to Yao is beyond absurd.. I fully agree that Artest goes completely ape**** sometimes and launches wild shots, but a missed opportunity isn't a "turning point".. we had them up by 7 in the 4th quarter, but like usual, we failed to close.. all I am preaching is, STOP blaming Adelman for everything.. STOP blaming Adelman for Yao getting only 6 shots.. Adelman can draw offensive sets, run multiple screens, and get the ball to Yao, but he CAN'T make the officials NOT call Flops, he CAN'T prevent Yao from getting bullied around, he can't make Yao establish position.. you're looking at a specific instance, you should be looking at the game as a whole.. Yao had a very tough time against single coverage, and when, only when he seems to beat his man, they bring help over to discourage the pass.. Adelman cannot do anything about it.. only Yao and the refs can affect this situation, and unfortunately, the refs are awful.. So it's up to Yao to somehow pull through, establish his position, and raise his hand asking for the ball.. of course Yao cannot make the refs NOT call the Pryzbilla flops, but we're gonna have to live with that..
Anyone else notice that Dwight Howard was also shut down in their game 2? He only scored six points and took six shots. The NBA is totally structured to perimeter players now. Teams can easily double post players when they don't have the ball (which used to be illegal defense but isn't now) and totally shut them down. Back in the 90s, the NBA had tons of stars who were post players and made rules to favor them. Now the NBA's stars are perimeter players and thus the rules favor them.
Apparently including Yao in any bullet list of reasons the team got beat is a no-no. No criticizing of the Yao. You cant even say his shoelaces were uneven. Yao has been here for 7 years with almost(over?) a hundred different teammates. Its THEIR fault they don't go to him down low enough. Its THEIR fault they can't get it to him when they have a 2 and a half man picket fence around him and two other Rockets are wide open. I've really had it with all this bull****. When the opponent wants to keep Yao from getting the ball, they CAN and WILL. If they want to completely leave one or two of his teammates unguarded Yao WILL be taken out of the game. This is within the NBA rules. But Yao is doing his teammates a HUGE favor because now its 4 on 3 elsewhere. That's a mismatch he is creating without the ball. So give it a frickin rest with all the "just throw it in to Yao more" or "find more ways to get Yao the ball". NO. If the opponent wants to completely remove Yao from the game by spending 40-60% of their on-court personell to keep him without the ball, its up to the other 4 guys to attack their 2-3 like a frickin fast break. When is the last time the opponent fronted Yao the whole game and the Rockets had single digit turnovers??
See. Its not Yao's fault. Its the way the NBA is structured and if teams want to take a player out of the game they CAN. When NFL teams overload against the Run, they generally make them pay by throwing the ball. When baseball teams bring in a lefty to take out that tough right handed hitter, the other team comes back and makes them pay with a good left handed pinch hitter.
more rockets quotes. from the coach - “It’s a fine line,” Rockets coach Rick Adelman said. “It’s a combination of guys understanding we have to change sides, we have to move the ball so everybody has an opportunity, plus Yao has an opportunity to get it back. I just don’t think we did that. I thought we gave up on him and never came back to him. But there’s no doubt we have enough people to score to win games. Once you start scoring, it’s going to open up for him.” “We weren’t looking,” Adelman said. “We didn’t have the patience to look inside. It’s not going to work if you do that. When they want to front him and do all that, then it opens it up for everybody else.” from ab - “It could be better,” said Rockets guard Aaron Brooks, who has averaged 25 points in the first two games of the series. “Yao has to get more than six shots. That’s the key.” yao - “Obviously in the last two days, we made some adjustments,” Yao said. “We guessed what they were going to try to do, obviously front, double-team. They used both and tried to get the ball out of my hands. They did well. We have to try something (else) to try to find me on the post, not on the high post. I know we can do better than that.” battier - “There’s a balance there when they take away Yao to punish them,” Battier said. “For the most part, we did that. But we tend to get away from him. We’re at our best when Yao catches a lot and gets a lot of shots.” http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/6387581.html
“When he went out in the third quarter, it was key. Again, it’s a combination. He’s got to find a way to get position better and he’s got to find a way to hold their people off and we have to have the patience to look for him. I thought we ran some stuff and he came in the middle with a guy on his back and we chucked it up there – we weren’t looking, we didn’t have the patience to look inside. It’s not going to work if you do that. When they want to front him, it opens it up for everybody else but it’s got to be everybody understanding what we’re trying to do." How many times Adelman criticized Yao? Who are "WE" he referred to? Can anyone recall when Adelmen blamed Brook or Artest?
Im sick and tired of smart asses in here saying its ok for Yao to take 2 shots a game. The coach wants team to look inside more. We want team to look inside more. Now I dont know what the heck all these so called experienced posters or veteran posters talking smack about? Clearly either the coach is wrong or you lot. I'll stick with coach on this. Give Yao the ball everytime he is free down low. Look for it every time. That will lead to basket or free throws or kick out to someone free. If he is being fronted drive in if there is a path or swing the ball and reposition. During that time someones bound to have open shots. Yes if Yao is being swarmed, mix it up with few Artest post ups and csola too depending on matchups. But for gods sake pass the ball to Yao when he is freaking open. Also it baffles me. You guys say Rick is one of the best and i certainly think he is a fine coach (but his partnership with Yao doesnt bode well). But he cannot figure to beat this Yao being fronted problem. Is this the best he can do? If he is best in business than he ought to figure that out right?
The coach understands a lot of the fronting problems has to do with Yao himself. The "we" refers to the entire team.
can anyone here give reasons why yao should shoot more or why yao should touch the ball more? here you can understand we are talking about the offense end. don't drag this topic into the defense end. let me start the list. 1) yao shoot high % fg. it means the chance to score is high. it leads to 2) coz he can score in high %, he will draw defense around him when he touch the ball. it will give easy and open looks for other rox players so they can score in high % instead of low 40% or below 40%.
I think most everyone agrees that if we can get Yao more high percentage looks, then we should. The question is how do we do so without stifling the overall offense. If the defense is keying on Yao, and players that are open on the other side are discouraged from making plays because "we need to get the ball to Yao" ... does that lead to good offense?
you're asking the wrong questions. it's not whether or not we need to get yao the ball, it's how. bottom line is, yao doesn't get the ball enough, we're likely to lose. it's proven throughout the season.
Where did you buy your STUPID glasses from. You can only see stupidly with them. Try taking them off.
