Pearl Jam has pretty much confirmed as they are scheduled to do an ACL tv show taping the weekend of the festival. I'm not so sure about DMB. Beastie Boys are likely in and Kings of Leon have also been confirmed as a headliner. My guess is that Pearl Jam gets the Sunday night closing slot.
I went to one Lollapalooza... ... and it happened to be the best one. It was th 1992 lineup: Main Stage: Red Hot Chili Peppers Ministry Ice Cube Soundgarden The Jesus and Mary Chain Pearl Jam Lush Side Stage: Jim Rose Circus Sharkbait Archie Bell Porno for Pyros Basehead Cypress Hill House of Pain Sweaty Nipples Arson Garden Seaweed Seam Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E. The Look People Stone Temple Pilots The Vulgar Boatmen Truly, Skrew Tribe The Authority Samba Hell Café Tacuba Rage Against the Machine
Lineup to be released a week from today. DMB, Beastie Boys and Pearl Jam are the expected headliners, with Kings of Leon and Ghost Observatory the co-headliners. Maybe I'm just growing out of it, maybe it's just out-growing itself, but I don't really feel ACLFest anymore. It seems to me that it got too top-heavy (big name headliners, loss of "depth" in the other acts) over the years. Maybe I was just spoiled when I first went and didn't have to deal with the 70k crowds (second year, 2003). I showed up 2007 because I love catching the Flecktones when I can and the wife was excited to see Indigo. Also Grace Potter, Heartless Bastards, Arctic Monkeys and a couple of others. But even just that tiny taste of idiot crowd was enough to turn us off to the whole thing all over again. On a tangent, I do wish these festivals worked with more artists to release the sets (unmixed sdb) on iTunes. Extra revenue stream for very little effort/overhead.
I like that Lollapallooza lineup better than the Outside Lands one. For those of yall talking about ACL, I'm pretty sure they use the same booking folks so the lineups should be similar (save for Kings of Leon). I dropped $230 for this, and these old 90's headliners better be worth it.
I loved how Ministry stole the show from the Peppers. I saw that show on Aug 23, 1992 in Orlando while Hurricane Andrew was on its way to Florida. There was a statewide evacuation going on....all the toll roads were free.
I was at Lolla last year and really enjoyed the location in Grant Park. I'm looking forward to hitting this year as well as Outside Lands and ACL... this is what I call Beastie Boys season and I try not to miss a good festival show by these guys...
I didn't know this was still around. I thought, metaphorically speaking, that someone had pulled up an old 1991 thread. (with the exception of The Killers of course)
Yeah, I was there too- and they sure did steal the show. But the entire thing was fantastic. Remember Eddie Vedder climbing the 6-story scaffolding? Awesome.
