So does Dorsey get activated or what? We are going to have to have another defender at the 4.

Mutombo has been a superb backup center. Reality check here, your team is going into game 7, you need 1 center to play 35 minutes your choices are Dikembe Mutombo or Greg Oden. Who do you take? You take MUTOMBO! Not only is Mutombo currently the better player he is intelligent and understands how to avoid fouls. Look how he stepped up during the 22 game win streak.

"For many years the Rockets do not have a reliable backup" Are you kidding me?!!!?!?!?! We have had arguably the best backup. You can't assume an injury like Mutombo's will occur. How much do you really want to invest in a 3rd string center when your 1st string center is the best player on the team...

They didn't even sign him at the beginning of he year. Do they really like him that much? He has no offensive at all. Oden just abused him when Yao was on the bench.

They had to clear room to bring in Mutombo, they liked him enough to do that. Mutombo was a force last year when Yao went down. Greg Oden hasn't abused anybody since high school.

Damn, Deke! Whyyyyyyy? Sh** happens, I guess ... :(

I was wondering if a team can sign a Free Agent during the playoffs?
Otherwise, we could add someone ... maybe

Although I still have faith in the Chuckwagon and probably we will see Cook more now ... but next season, no doubt we need a new back-up center!

Are you guys kidding me?? Deke was literally our lucky backup center. How many guys can grab 10-15 boards in 10mins? Morey shouldn't be praised for Deke's generosity of signing up for minimal cash at the age of 41. We have no height with the forwards (Ron is strong, but not tall enough for Aldridge) and who is actually our backup C? As some of you mentioned, Deke signed up mid-year. I yell at the tv when I see Chuck guarding other team's center positions. What is he.. 6'-8"??

Arrgh... Damn you Oden. That T-rex destroyed our Deke!!!

    Did someone really say ZAZA?

    Are you serious, he sucks.

Marcin Gortat is the one we should be looking for.

Bringing in Mutombo or another 7-footer at some point was always the plan, and this was made clear pretty early on. It wasn't done earlier because the Rockets were over the LT and it was believed the Rockets would be good enough for a good stretch of the season without one. As it turned out, the Rockets won went 47-26 in the regular without a backup 7-footer in the regular season, despite a host of injuries.

we won't have one unless Les is gonna man up and pay the lux tax...

I mean our lack of SG and resigning Ron Artest PLUS a lowered lux tax cap is gonna put the backup C way out of attention

Elson, Magloire, Anderson and Mbenga all signed for less than barry and made less than head. Even if you were bringing Deke back, why not sign one of those guys and still bring deke back and rid yourself of head and not sign Barry? Or how about drafting Deandre Jordan instead of dorsey and still bring deke back to help him be a pro? SOS by morey the magician.

I remember there was a debate on whether rockets should pick yao or oden if had chance to do so...as for the deke, he is no where near the best backup big, but he is the best rockets can offord.

A legit 7 foot Center behind Yao is priority number 1 in the offseason. With Deke here for the last 5 years, I do not blame the Rockets organisation for not getting another back-up. I do blame them for the lack of getting a big athletic PF to compete with the big boys. Why do we struggle against Portland, Utah, LA and almost every single playoff team ? Because they have size, so size is not overrated like Morey tries to stuff down our throats all the time.

We need an atheltic PF like Aldridge too, because with the 4 PFs we have we will never get far in the playoffs.
    - Scola, though consistent, avoids contact on offense way too much and is not tall and athletic enough to block shots. He cannot jump very high and is inconsistent on defense
    - Landry, simply too small for a back-up though he has been great on offense this year
    - Hayes, just a defender, nothing more and far less effective than he was last year
    - Cook, too fat and slow though he can shoot threes

I'm content and though I like Hayes & Landry, we need a big athletic PF to back-up Scola or start with Scola coming off the bench next year.

I'm gonna go ahead and pimp for my boy DJ. I know he would love the chance to play in Htown and get minutes backing up Yao. Plus he already comes down to Htown to workout with Hakeem AND he(DJ) is great friends with Deke. DJ and Deke talk on the phone at least once a week and DJ will have two legendary centers to mentor him while he backs up Yao.
Also DJ will give Yao the same look Deke usually makes everytime Yao punks out and tries to take a charge instead of going for a block. :D

He makes minimum just like anderson. It was a problem last year when yao went out and deke started but in the playoffs we got hammered when deke went out. I dunno what the gm don't understand about size. Mbenga couldve been offered 1.2 or elson lle or even during the season when petro was availible, yet we continue to send midgets out to guard the rim. No one is changing their shot or pump faking when the see hayes or scolandry. There isn't a point value u can put on that.

DeAndre Jordan is looking real good right now. I guess the math equation and quantitative model used by the Rockets told them that Dorsey was better. How long have people been saying that Houston needs a young, legit backup C with size behind Yao?
