Love Deke. Retiring his without Elvin Hayes first is a travesty.

i feel like Deke has been with the team forever, but in actuality its probably been only a few years.

I updated the petition to include some of his humanitarian work....It's not all about tenure and on court achievement.....After all look at #23 hanging on the Heat's rafters!!! Jordan never even played for the Heat!! Deke definetely deserves to have his jersey retired by SOMEONE...even if its not the Rockets....Not only because he was great on the court, but because he was one of the best off the court. Might as well be in the city he loved the most and loved him back!

why on earth would you ever take ANYONE here seriously?

anyway, sure.... he did SO much for this team, no one should be allowed to wear his jersey number ever again? methinks not.

i think they should allow him to come back and dress, then let him on the court in the final seconds, let him grab a board, so he cant go out like that and not in pain on the floor.

I think it was uconn that did this for Nykeshia (?) Sales, she was about to break a school record and got hurt with a point to go or something like that, they wheeled her out and the opposing team allowed her to score a bucket so she could do it. Some got pissed, but deke wont be breaking any record, so i doubt anyone will have a fit.

Problem is what game. I dont think we should wait until next season.

I don't know if retiring his number is appropriate... but there should be no doubt in anyone's mind that Deke is a first rate player and human being... a man worthy of the title "hero".

I bet Atlanta will retire his jersey, he was pretty big when he was there. I definitely am not opposed to the rockets hanging it up either. He is a special person who deserves it imo.

You can end the petition, the Rockets owner Leslie Alexander has already vowed to retire his number last year. So will the Hawks and Nuggets, 76ers was not sure yet.

Still good initiative though, #55 will hang there next year. Is there a way Deke can play a retirement game so the first game of next season or so ?
