I think law of averages and the assumption that Portland would adjust in game two accounts for the disparity in the pre-game point differential predictions.

That's just my take though. I have no idea at all.

    I never Donaghy... I mean gamble. ;)

Joey Crawford is one of the most popular refs for a reason.

He's horrible, he has a ego, and makes a lot of obvious bad calls... Nearly everyone fouled out in this game.

I agree. Yes, we made some dumb mistakes, and missed far too many FTs, but I believe the officiating impacted the way we played. Most would say, "gee, they had three guys with 5 fouls apiece, so the refs weren't biased". If you were really paying attention, you'd probably conclude that all 3 should have had 6 fouls early in the 4th. The Blazers once again got away with Prizbilla's and Roy's flops. It was a badly officiated game.

If Violet Palmer ever gets close to a Rockets game, you may as well turn off the game. And if she ever gets teamed up with Joey Crawford and Ed Malloy, you may as well just forfit.

Referees are not programmed foul detector. It is normal that they would make mistakes sometimes. I do not see the officiating of Game 2 significantly altering the outcome of the game. The other way around I think the referees did a decent job.
Only losers would always put the blame on the referees. We lost because their man Roy came out when it mattered while our main guy Yao disappeared.

Yeah nearly every Portland player almost fouled out tonight.

Yao was about the only Rocket player in foul trouble.

Bad officiated game for both sides but people act like it was the reason we lost which isn't true. We cost ourselves the game more.

ditto. they called Battier for a phantom foul in the first minute of the game, away from the ball, with no impact on the play. That pretty much set the tone. How do two great defensive teams both allow over 50% shooting in the playoffs? Because no one was allowed to touch anybody. Yao is walking on eggshells out there. He's actively trying to avoid foul trouble, and still getting into foul trouble.

On a side note, did anyone else notice that every time to whistle blew, the Blazers announcers would say it was on Yao, even though it was obviously on someone else. and then when the ref signaled who the foul really was on, they're like, huh, looks like they changed it, guess Yao isnt fouling out tonight. Almost unbearable listening to those guys. Yao jumping straight up all night, yet anytime someone lunges into him, they're outraged at the no call.

No reason to blame this game on the refs. We lost, but it was hard-fought. If we make our free throws like we usually do, we win the game. We need a better gameplan and we'll be going back to Houston still with the advantage having stolen Game 1.

We missed too many FTs and Yao couldn't get the ball. That is the main reason we lost tonight.

But I really really really wish the NBA would not let Joey ref playoff games. I never like to say "I HOPE HE GETS FIRED!" but just keep this man away from important games like this.

I haven't seen Palmer yet so that is a plus. I hope she is not in the rotation of refs or else we have another horribly called game coming up.

Stop whining about official. thats why it is call homecourt advantage. Everyone knows it is going to be like that. we will be getting all the calls too when we play at home. they just need to go and practice making FTs.

I definitely wouldn't say it was bad officiating either. Like someone said earlier, its more just bad because the playoffs should not be officiated the way they were tonight. Im sure if this game were in Utah, most these fouls would have never been called.

If the referees on the court cannot be counted on to officiate the game properly, then something has to be done. I think it would be a good idea to have a 4th referee viewing the game on a monitor, as this would provide a greater perspective to the play.

I do not see that possible cause officiating spillover is part of game, just like soccer referee would not seek replay to help them to make a better decision

Make our free throws and this game was ours. The officiating sometimes sucks, but that's not why we lost.

I very rarely get to watch games anymore. Finally getting to watch one, and sacrificing a lot of needed sleep for it, only to see the refs call one of the worst games ever (on both sides of the ball) was infuriating.

I don't think they caused the loss or whatever, but they sure as hell caused me to wonder what I was doing at 11:30 pm in front of the TV.

    It's so subjective it's maddening.

Last comment: For the love of all things holy - if the ref cannot see the foul in question - as in, literally see it take place with his own eyes - they must NOT blow the whistle. There must have been at least five instances of "feeling fouls" in the first half alone.

Sure, sure, label me a whiner or whatever. I've always been extremely critical of the refs, and this is exactly why. The entire game I wondered what obscure call was going to be made next. The whole game I kept hearing "they're calling it tight" only to watch a goddam wrestling match between Yao and 3 defenders every possession. I'm sorry, but these things make the game LAME.
