I would've preferred a sweep, but a tie was the next best thing. At any rate, a blowout and a nail biter means that Portland isn't Utah in terms of homecourt toughness. And we pretty much exposed Portland's reliance in Roy having an MVP game EVERY game to even stand a chance against just a half-assed Rockets team. I say take care of them back at home and put the finishing touch in Portland.
Yao played like crap (or Adelman couldn't find a way to defeat fronting). Brooks is our next shooting guard. Good trip.
It's not as easy as it sounds. From the way I look at it, the refs got a big part in deciding how many games needed to be played. Also, stopping Yao is so damned easy, I wouldn't be surprised at all if we get bounced out of the first round again. Come on Yao, how can a franchise player get stopped so easily??
He's TO machine. I said Rockets would miss Rafer because he can run offense, KL is much better to run offense than AB .
Portland's bigs were all in foul trouble, with Oden fouling out. And this **** on Portland. Don't give me crap about "referees".
Even with the fronting problems, all the missed free throws, and it being a raucous game in Portland, the game was very winnable. If it weren't for a selection of crazy shots by Roy, the Rockets would be going home 2-0. This series could easily go Portland's way, but personally I don't feel that people should be jumping off bridges anytime soon. We managed to keep the game close till the waning seconds even when Roy had a miraculous night. I like the fight in this team.
Yep, we did what we HAD to do fellas. Yeah it would have been GREAT to steal this one and really shake their confidence but...you can't always get what you want. Of course the next game is a must win...every game in the playoffs is a must win.
This is our game we gave away. Like I said in the post game thread, our free throws cost us the game. We could have easily taken a 2-0 lead but we'll have to settle for 1-1 on the road. Them fronting Yao was not the problem. Us worried about the front and not looking to get to Yao was the issue. I'm confident we push it to 3-1 at home Go Rox
Mutombo went down, Yao only took 6 shots (and made only 2), and Roy and Aldridge both had BIG nights. And we only lost by 4, on their home floor? DON'T PANIC. Everything went Portland's way tonight, and we still kept it close at the end.
For those of us who picked Rockets in 6, this is one of the two that Portland wins. I'm not panicking. Aaron Brooks was making big shots at the end. It truly does show that there's no quit in this team. We'll come out and we'll play hard every game. Here's to sweeping the two home games. Go Rockets!
Losing Deke was too big a blow for us to get out of the second round, I think. But yes, it was a good two games. We need to keep improving, and now that we know how Portland plans to play Yao (fronting, crappier Twin Towers), we need to adjust accordingly. I expect Roy to keep having big games, but today was definitely pretty psycho by him. I hope Artest and Battier can watch tape and contain him better. I like Battier on Roy a lot more.
No need to panic. I think the Blazers are too young to handle on the road pressure to win a game in Houston.
Also this will get the team more focused. You saw it at times out there there was no hustle. Yao was beaten to nearly every rebound, Deke needs to talk to him and say "I Just got hurt and the longer we play in the playoffs the better chance I have to play again " But yeah, not much went our way tonight.
I salute you This is the only bearable thread in the garm. There are so many threads without any thought put into them -- mostly one sentence questions. And I agree with you. It's a shame, though, that the Rockets were up by 4 with 5minutes left and lost it. Yao didn't play like he was hungry tonight. Also, the refs are backing to calling touch-fouls
Deke's career is done, and this was a pretty good road trip? I don't like our chances in this series without Deke the rest of the way. The Blazers are too good a rebounding team, and they're front is too long with Pryzbilla, Oden, and Aldridge. A game 2 loss sucks, but its bearable. Losing Deke was the big blow here.
Besides Ron Artest, all of our guards played a good game shooting percentage wise. This is not going to happen very often. If we can't figure out how to make Yao more effective than we are doomed. On the other hand, we don't have any answer for Roy. Their offense looked very efficient today. We need to win two games home and figure out how we are going to solve fronting (I'm not going to have my hopes high on this as we have not been to solve this in entire regular season. It seems like the current plan is to move the ball to top of the key and take the shot. This is not going to work as that is not going to stop them from fronting.
i hate the style you talk,it is not Yao's fail,we should a way to free Yao.other players should be more efficient.
I too was very upset with the missed FT's. Hurt us in the end, though it wasn't the deciding factor. We can't give lay ups at home. We have to slow down Roy.Yao has got to play defense and keep out of foul trouble as best as he can when he isn't able to score. We HAVE to get him involved on the offensive end.
