I'm a huge final fantasy fan, with FF9 being my all-time favorite IMO..
As for FF13.. i just got tired of waiting
Better be a good game and get 10/10

I've long been a proponent of the importance of world maps. It lends some sense of scale to the world and makes things feel so much less contrived... especially world maps you can walk around on instead of just going from point A to point B.

Where did you see this? I don't doubt the info, but I haven't really seen it anywhere. Of course, I haven't really kept up with rumors lately. Might have missed it, especially if it was part of some bigger set of rumors.

There was a post on the IGN board that linked to an article on a PS site. I don't know how credible it is (and they are only rumors, after all), and I basically take all of these types of announcements with a grain of salt until I see new games in the PSN store with my own eyes. However, they did name MGS, RE: Director's Cut, and FF7 specifically as three of the flagship games that would be released as the beginning of an effort to bolster the PS store. Doesn't sound too outrageous considering Konami and Capcom have been wanted to get some of their games into the PS store (MvC2 is going to come out very soon, in fact). And with Advent Children coming out, it wouldn't be too crazy to see FF7 come out relatively soon.

On a related note, this demo helped push the PS3 to sales of ~57K units last week, which was the highest of all consoles (DSi and PSP were 2nd at ~36K). For reference, it was usually around 15K-20K in previous weeks IIRC, and that was actually above average (lots of games came out recently). I bet Sony would really like it if Square-Enix could maybe work a little faster on these games. ;)

Saw something about ACC selling 300K, although not sure if that is accurate.

(yeah, I know I said earlier that I was done bumping this thread... )

Hmmm, meaning that the Wii was not the highest selling console for a week for the what, the 3rd time in the last two years? If you go strictly on home consoles and not portable, of course.

I know I'll definitely buy it on the PS3 for various reasons. Not the least of which being that I think it will just be a smoother experience overall. We will see.

Actually, IIRC the PS3 has been outselling the Wii since maybe mid-February or so. Although as I said in my previous post, PS3 sales have been a bit above average due to a number of great releases (Yakuza 3, RE5, SFIV, etc.). The Wii hasn't really had too many major releases during that time frame. Plus, I think one or two weeks, they sold practically the same.

Not much on the horizon for the PS3, so sales will probably decline back to the 10K-15K it normally sells, and Wii will probably be on top again for a while (FYI, Wii seems to sell about 15K-20K it seems without any major releases).

That right? I'll have to keep up with the NPD numbers even more.

But on that note, the Wii has been selling out for nearly 2 years straight and besides Nintendo games like Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, Mario Kart Wii, and what No More Heroes... what games were considered big releases and sold well?

I always thought of the Wii as a system where many people buy it and one other game and that was it. Not steadily purchase games like many 360 and PS3 users do.

Perhaps it is a myth, but it seems the Wii has been a massive success with 3rd party games not selling relatively well.

Oh wait, did you think I was talking about the US market? Those numbers are from Japan (via Media-Create/Famitsu/Dengeki/etc., not NPD). US is a different market entirely of course. Sorry about any confusion.

Ah, that explains it. Hmmm, perhaps it is a sign of things to come in America? Doubtful, but it's interesting still.

    Demo vs actual game changes

    * Battle difficulty will be greatly increased. In fact, Toriyama expects XIII to be "the most difficult FF ever".
    * In the demo, party members are CPU controlled. In the final, you'll be able to issue them directives.
    * Continuing your "Chain" in the demo isn't very important in the demo, but will vital in the final.
    * The classic FF victory fanfare isn't present in the demo, but will be in the final.
    * Victory poses may be incorporated into the final; the matter is currently under consideration.
    * If the first hit of a chain kills an enemy in the demo, your character continues attacking air for the duration of the combo. This will be remedied in the final.
    * Snow is barehanded in the demo, but will have weapons available to him in the final.
    * Encounters occur solely from the front in the demo, but various encounter styles will be present in the final.
    * The final will have a level system.
    * The demo only allows you to control one character, but the final will have a new system for managing other party members in battle.
    * The final will have command shortcuts.
    * Selecting your target in the demo can be a bit of a chore; the final will have a more streamlined targeting mechanism.
    * The final will have an "item" command in battle.
    * NPC dialogue will be subtitled in the final. In the demo, there is only voice.
    * Sazh's rather bizarre battle animation will be altered to be less strange, and more "jolly".
    * The Time Gauge maxes out at 3 in the demo, but you'll be able to add more segments in the final through a new character growth system.
    * Summons will be present in the final. The mysterious "TP Bonus" that appears after battles in the demo relates to them.
    * Finally, the occasional frame rate drops in the demo will be fixed, according to Toriyama.

Not really. At least, not any more so than usual. Release date is good, but March is already loaded...and I already have a lot of games I need to play. So that doesn't really matter to me.

And the theme song stuff is just bad IMO. Not talking about Leona Lewis (who I didn't even know) or the song (which I don't really care for). But just picking some random pop song for the theme song. I didn't really care for the Japanese theme song (or one of them?), but at least it was written for the game.

    edit:
    Maybe this is why:

It is a joke of course.

Wow, it's finally coming out in a few months. Not sure what to think. I find myself caring less and less about RPGs, or any game for that matter, these days. But a FF game is still probably a must buy though.

The only thing good about the song being the theme is that it doesn't mean it is the intro, or even used outside of the credits screen. That makes it a bit more tolerable. Hopefully the intro will use something actually made for the game (maybe the other Japanese vocal track...possibly translated?).

And BTW Square-Enix, you don't necessarily always have to use vocal tracks for these type of situations. Especially when you have some talented composers.
