I generally hate anime, but this one caught my eye recently. Anyone else watch this show and would like to give an opinion? I thought it was pretty good with lots of action and story. It was interesting.
My son watched this for a while about a year ago. I'd catch it with him every once in a while. I really liked the dark tone, and the quest to cheat death and bring their mother back was an intriguing one. Sometimes it was downright silly, but overall I enjoyed what I saw.
The first version of FMA came out a few years back, had a darker tone, and AFAIK, strayed away from the manga halfway through the series. The new series, dubbed FMA Brotherhood, came out about 3 weeks ago, and is less serious. It is basically a redo of series, but it will follow strictly to the manga. I really enjoyed the first one. So far, the 2nd one is nice, with better animation and is in HD, but I feel like it is rushing through the storyline a bit, almost that the anime creators assumed you watched the first one.
I'm really selective about my anime, and I really liked this one. Took me about a month to watch all 50 or so episodes.
The manga is way better than the anime. Not saying the anime was bad but it does not compare to the manga.
I'm looking forward to the redo, but it's pretty slow right now. Hopefully they jump right to the points where the manga deviated from the 1st series. Also recommend the 1st series...
Full metal Alchemist is a must watch for any anime fan Here's my Top 3 Anime (Currently) 1. Full Metal Alchemist 2. Naruto (I follow the Japanese episodes and manga; i hated it at first but a friend got me into it) 3. Bleach (Got off to blazing start, then went downhill from there)
@j3188: ...The mere fact that you can list Naruto and Bleach automatically discredits you as a good source. While I despise shounen series in principle, FMA is a special exception, as it actually weaves a fairly interesting story. That said to the OP: First off, which one are you referring to? I have not watched much of the first anime series, and I generally did not find it very good. The manga is generally superior from what I saw. Furthermore, as others have said, there is a new anime series coming out that is actually based off the manga, which isn't that bad so far, though it does make a few edits since the beginning of the first anime did follow the manga. If you're new to the whole anime and manga scene, I think that FMA would be a good choice to start off with.
Dude, everyone has different tastes.. there's some people who like it, and there's people like you who don't.. but really, i don't give a damn what you think.. i just gave my opinion
I don't like japanimations either, but FMA is a good show. I actually watched it almost every night when they used to show it a lot on Adult Swim.
@Kojirou...the mere fact you do not like Naruto and Bleach makes you a complete fool and automatically discredits you as the end all source of what good anime is as you think yourself to be. See! I can do it too! Its really easy! Its all opinions who are you to say what is good and what is terrible? I know many people who do not like naruto and bleach but I know several that do like them too. Add that they are probably the two biggest anime's out there so there must be doing something right when it comes to gaining fans. there are several animes out there you are bound to find one you love that others hate and you are bound to find one you hate that others love...so why act like an anime snob saying what you like correct? I havent read/seen FMA myself I will give it a shot I am currently trying to get through Detective Conan right now (I love mysteries, but the overall story line is progressing really slow). I'll check out FMA after I am done with DC.
The 50 or so episodes of FMA were SOOO good. Frankly I don't feel like watching the new series since it's a reshash of the old. I was hoping for a continuation but oh well. They released Dragonball Z in HD and called it Dragon Ball Kai. Apparently they took out ALL the fillers in the episodes and followed the manga. Maybe this time it won't take 5 episodes to reach Super Saiyan.
I'm personally following this show. It's been a while so the story's kind of lost on me already. So it almost feels like a new show. It's not a rehash. The original anime deviated from the manga half way through. As the manga was(and still is) ongoing at the time and the anime needed a conclusion. It only seems like a remake because the first anime also followed the manga closely for quite a bit. So this series will resemble that for a while. But after a while, you'll see deviation.
http://www.amazon.com/Fullmetal-Alchemist-Vol-Hiromu-Arakawa/dp/1591169208 I think you can find it at any bookstore too. I don't know how many English volumes have came out. But I believe the Japanese story is up to 22 volumes.
