Heh, everyone knew that Lebron needed a good point guard to run the offense so he could wreak havoc without the ball. He finally got it, the team took off like everyone expected, and Mike Brown rides the coattails to a COY award.

Honestly, I would have gone with SVG, Adelman, Rivers(team had much more injury issues this year), Sloan, Pops, or McMillian over Mike Brown.

Well, your same argument against Brown would have applied to Rivers last season. They got KG and Ray Allen, Rivers didn't have to do anything.

Phil Jackson had Jordan and prime Shaq/Kobe, I could have won with those players, it's no big deal, etc.

Figures. The coach with the best record is always favored to win.

Well, I guess if you are talking consistency of a team throughout the whole year, he's done a good job. For the Cavs, there is so little to choose from in the way of losses, but they didn't exactly lose only to good or even decent teams.

RA had to deal with a number of injuries and McProblem for quite a while. In the midst of that, he still had the Rockets at the top.

If the Rox had finished #2 in the West, would it have made a difference? It's only one game, but that was arguably the most important game of the season.

Who knows...but at least RA got some respect.

Sure. It is easy to win more games if you have $92M worth players than $50M ($70M-$20M) worth players.

Glad to see Rick getting some recognition and some people here think he might be fired.....

Come on, the guy has done wonders with a team full of injured players....WONDERS.

you may see its the maturation of James and the addition of Williams, but Brown has taken that team and given it a great defensive identity and toughness. The cavs have always been a good defensive team and a rebounding team with Brown there.

While I feel that COY shouldnt go to the coach of the best team record wise in the league, I dont see anything too wrong with Brown winning it. The cavs too had some injuries this year to Wallace and West.

Now if Danny Ferry wins exec of the Year I will barf. The guy made one no brainer move for Williams that was brought to him.

When Cheney won coach of the year, he had to deal with the adversity of losing Olajuwon for quite some time. Mr. Mean played very well in his absence, but Cheney kept it together.

You could argue in Rivers favor that he had to mesh all 3 of those superstar egos and abilities to get a fluid offense going. Course I thikn alot of the success of the Celtics last year goes to their defensive specialist Tom Thibadeaux.

I bet if JVG was coaching the Rockets, he would of won COY.

this is silly, first he couldn't coach offense, now he gets a borderline all star and he's riding his coattails? Mike Brown may or may not be a good x's and o's guy. But he's gotten alot out of that team as far as talent is concerned, even when you consider he has the best player on the planet. I do watch them enough to know its still Lebron and everyone else.

Mo Williams was a great add, but give Brown credit for getting the most out of it.

Statistics drive the award voting. It should be given to the coach who overcame the most adversity - and did the best he could with what little he had.

He might get fired. His job should be on the line at least.

Like tinman said, getting COY is not any type of contract extension.

Why should his job be on the line?

For getting the Rockets two 53+ win seasons while one of the two superstars is injured? For getting the Rockets to the playoffs with injured superstars? For integrating young talent seamlessly into the team (Scola, Landry, Wafer, Brooks, Lowry soon)?

Yes, sounds like someone whose "job should be on the line".

COY isn't a contract extension, but it's a darn good indicator of how well a coach is doing. Getting second in the voting for a fifth seeded team is amazing, really.

Cmon man, don't you know he hasn't won the first round yet and he sometimes makes Yao Ming fans unhappy?

That's enough to get you fired, IMO.

not usually... look at the previous winners. rarely do they go to the coach of the team with the best record.

they usually go to the cinderella team, the Sam Mitchell's and Doc Rivers (Orlando) and Hubie Browns

Mike brown is not a good coach in my opinion, the way he submitted to Lebron and his coaching style "give the ball to lebron and get out of the way".

Silly me. We should fire any coach that doesn't win the NBA championship his first year while his best player is injured, even though he led the team to a historic winning streak and got home court advantage in the playoffs without said star player.

    (P.S. - I know you were being sarcastic. ;) )
