HeyPartner started a thread, a month or two ago (during our NY conspiracy phase), about how Stern would arrange a trade for Ming to end up in NY. So, I just thought I'd ask, since NY has nothing that we want, if he could give out extra picks? For instance, if we swap picks with NY this year, he'd give us an extra #1 pick in each of the next 5 years. After all, he took 5 #1 picks away from Minnesota. Why can't he just arbitrarily give out 5 #1 picks? Maybe, if Houston plays hardball, we could get them to be the #1 overall picks in each of those 5 years, or at least top 3. He could call them Special Circumstance Compensatory Picks. WOW! I'm starting to get tingly all over. Sure, it'd slow down our rebuilding program, but the #1 overall pick for 5 consecutive years added to what we have right now? By the way, for those that take everything literally, this is just a joke.
Im pretty sure the "powers that be" would be loving a successful Knicks franchise right now. If Ming does justify the hype surrounding him it would be huge for New York. In the long run this could only mean more dollars and cents for the NBA. I highly doubt Houston would get that many #1's out of a swap for Ming. People would definately see the "conspiracy" if this were to happen. The way things look as far as New York is concerned they ain't getting Ming. This is a given. It would take another team to do this. Houston might benefit this way but straight up Houston loses. There is nothing out there at the moment that is that "must do" trade. Lets be real here. Teams are going to deal Houston Mings worth at the moment. And right now hes an enigma. Hes not worth KG which is ridiculous. Its clear Houston is going to bite the bullet this time. All signs point to Ming in a Rockets uniform next season. As of this moment its all thats left now is to iron out all the little kinks that will enable us to see Ming in the Compaq Center next season. Houston would be smart not to negotiate with New York in reference to our #1. But there is alot of demand out there right now and I feel that if that "must do" trade comes up and it means production now. I would do it. But the chances are just so small. Smartest thing to do right now is draft Ming and take a chance just as they have done before which for most part were very successful #1's. Oh my bad, Do I think David Stern wants New York to be a successful franchise? Yes. Do I think David Stern can pull off a trade that would make them better? No. Stern isn't going to get involved in that way.
In a hypothetical, I think many Rockets fans would be very happy if Stern lets us swap this pick for the top pick in next year's draft. Even though he's a high schooler, there are a lot fewer questions about the kid than Ming....
I don't think Lebron James would fit into our team. First off he's a type of player that is a cornerstone of a franchise. Steve 'im the star' Francis wouldn't appreciate that too much.
