When I'm watching a game, be it in person or at home, if I hear women's voices, I'm usually telling them to be quiet. So my natural instinct upon hearing a woman's voice during a game is one of scorn. Because of that, last night's game was rough. I'd say 90% of fans would agree with that, but might not come out and say it. I feel sorry for the Big 10 fans that have to listen to that woman commentator on ESPN on the noon kickoffs.
If she were a man no one would be complaining about her commentating. Seriously? Reggie Miller is 100 times more annoying. I can barely listen to Mark Jackson and Jon "I used to play for the Rockets but apparently now I like to bash them any chance I get" Barry. Burke gives great insight. She has dud comments just like all commentators, but that doesn't take away from her overall skills.
Nah I think her biggest issue was that she just didnt have anything to say for much of the game. There were just large periods of silence where I could fill in what someone like Van Gundy, Doug Collins or Hubie Brown would say. I mean even when someone made an impressive shot, there wasn't the level of animation you'd find from other color commentators. For the most part, she said some decent things just not enough of them.
i think that job belongs to the play by play commentator. the color commentator is suppose to give us the facts and insight.
actually espn should have Erin Andrews doing commentary in a sexy outfit, have her permanently on the screen in a box in the right hand corner.
How come those race car shows get the hot reporter chicks? Everytime I see some NASCAR stuff on ESPN some hot chick is on the mic.
This is blasphemy. No one can ever annoy more than Clyde. Bullard comes close though with his Bulls-eye nonsense and constant bickering of the officiating.
I was surprised at how good the ESPN game coverage was. Both were better than decent and I really liked Burke. Hot may be a bit strong, but the Blade Runner would certainly give her a close examination to insure she isn't really a replicant. I have a lot of experience with that.
I would vehemently disagree. I found her boring and stupid. And to top it off, her voice grated on my nerves. BUT, to be fair, the only commentator I really like is JVG. Pretty much everybody else annoys me, so it's not like she's in unique company.
Her voice wasn't that exciting...as far as getting one "into the game". But she seemed to know more about the teams that half the folks that they usually use.
wow she is probably one of my fav color commentators right now. she's always insightful and never biased IMO. there is definitely some sexist ppl on this board then.
That comment irked me. She even gave a brief description HOW he was good said in a tone like she's seen him do it 1000 times, but it was just plain wrong. I'd describe bad as negatively detracting attention to themselves away from the game, making themselves a little too noticeable. Overall Burke didnt do that, so I'll say she at least was average. I dont see Van Gundy doing any playoff games tipping off at 9:45...
Lets see See is not a homer, she's not obsessed with one player, she's doesn't repeat same cliche phrases She doesn't go on and on about things like Doug Collins, she doesn't have overly dramatic reactions like Kevin Harlan, she's quite good its another case of sexism, she's hardly has any of the traits of an annoying announcer.
I'll admit I usually can't stand when there's a female announcer working the game I'm watching... But she actually wasn't that bad......was insightful enough and didn't babble on like Hubie/Collins/Walton... I probably wouldn't even mind if she did some more Rockets games the rest of the Playoffs
