The thing about the fronting offense is it leaves Yao open for the offensive rebound. Just swing the ball around, drive/pick&roll/whatever and get a shot up. Yao can get the rebound if you miss. Pryzbilla and Oden just aren't fast enough to get back around Yao for the rebound.
durvasa, was that really what happened? This is not a rhetorical question. I really want to know. I was only able to watch part of the 3rd quarter and the 4th. I remember a few occasions when I saw Brooks dribble around for like 20 seconds. I was screaming "PASS the BALL!" But that was in the 4th quarter when Yao was on the bench and we were leading by more than 20 points.
I second! Same third quarter as last regular game, AB and RA started to forget their teammates as soon as Rocket built up a decent lead. And then Yao got one foul after another. And then Yao had to be benched. It was just a lucky night for Rocket.
Forget this shortfuse3 moron. From his several posts in this thread, it is obvious that he is here just to flame. Yeah it's anyone would be annoyed by his stupidity. What a clown, ROFL.
Even we win. Big win. Even Yao shot 100%. Also complains? You guys just don't need a star, you need a God. I sometimes wonder if this is a Rox forum. I think Blazers gives more credit to Yao than some so-called Rox fan.
Right, he was 'benched' after he hit 9-9, got 9 rebounds, blocks 2 shots in 24 mins while we were crushing the Blazers. I understand your choice of word is intentional to flame. But your stupidity to believe that such a dumb tactic would actually work is startling. Were you born this dumb or is your dumbness caused by a tragic event later in your life? I am just curious.
WOW, are you really thinking that we could win a PLAYOFF game with Yao scores only 2 Points? are you really expecting another blow out game like this? Sure we won the first game, but the game plan for the 2nd half wasn't very clear to me. The only thing I could say is we had a hot night.
From what I remember, Brooks did dribble a lot but he wasn't just trying to score for the most part. I actually liked how he ran the pnr until he could scatter the defense. Sometimes he was able to get a switch on a big man and he would take him 1 on 1 and sometimes he had an open lane to the basket. However, he did have some bad possessions in the 2nd half.
yes, Yao is very important for rox I think , normally it is impossible we have so good shooting every day, we have to pass the ball to Yao then attract the defensers to get a good shooting chance outside. it should be the most useful way to get win for team.
Yao's team-mates should be very happy to have a guy like him. They only fed him the ball when they needed him to score. Once he helped them scored a huge lead, everyone else on the team started to play for themselves and run around with the ball and chuck up bad shots without passing him the ball once. Just my thoughs
Get your title right. Its misleading. One good thing they did was go through Yao early. Everybody was nervous but Yao was ice cool. He demoralised the Blazers so hard they gave up by half time. As always though the tendency is once we open up a bit of a gap; rest of the guys go looking for their own stats. Yao is unstoppable down low and he is a willing passer too. Why would you not wanna give him the ball everytime he is open? And once he gets fronted this team is so easy to beat. Thats two things they need to worry about. Rest is fine for the time being.
ok then, i'll say it. we should go through yao every time, the spacing is amazing when he's got the ball, the double comes then we have 1-2 open shooters, we just need to hit them and yao needs to keep the ball up and not bring it down.
He was. I watched the game again when it was replayed on ESPN2. Of course, his teammates also went away from him in the 3rd. Typical Rockets, except their shots were falling tonight.
One of the most idiotic comment ever. When is it a good game when Yao makes 1 basket and you can call it a GOOD game? Here's the answer for you..... N E V E R! Yao owns the paint defensively and he is a great passer. But the only reason why this team is who they are and what they could be is because of what Yao can do offensively. This team will never win a game when Yao scores only 2. Atleast make an effort to make some sense when you try to post rubbish.
That's how I remembered it. But I didn't go back and review it a second time, so I could be wrong. There were a few possessions where Aaron turned it over and perhaps over-dribbled, and Artest took some bad shots. I'm not saying it was perfect. But, on the whole, the Rockets are looking to be a balanced offensive team. I thought they put a little more pressure and focus on denying Yao, and the Rockets didn't skip a beat in attacking on the other side. There's nothing worse for our offense than Yao struggling to seal his man for 10 seconds, and our guys just standing around wondering where to go with the ball. We can't give the defense a chance to get set like that. After the game, Adelman said that he was calling more set plays in the second half then usual, a lot of pick and rolls. He also said this: [rquoter]“Aaron has had success against this team, but more importantly we needed to spread the court,” said Coach Rick Adelman. “We get stagnate sometimes offensively; the more that we can flatten the defense out, the more we can get those guys the ball in their hands, the better off we are. When Aaron shoots it like he did, they are in trouble. They’ll make adjustments, but we want to continue to keep attacking.”[/rquoter] I think the Rockets did pretty much what Adelman wanted them to do.
I have no problem for half of the 3rd qtr when yao's there. But I did notice a few times yao's open or established position, and AB just simply go away from him. AB turned it over or over-dribbling badly a couple times also. This game is kind of funny. Yao destroyed Portland's confidence and their whole gameplan, and our players just play 'free-style' basketball by themselves after that. Portland never really competed after yao's out.
