I'm just a few hours into Dead Space, and I'm sorta disappointed so far. The limb-chopping gameplay seems gimmicky and contrived to me, and I don't like the atmosphere like the RE games (again, still haven't actually played RE4, but I've probably watched 15 hours-worth of it).

Shadow of the Colossus is really unique, and I really believe it doesn't get more epic than that. What more do ya want than, say, boss #3, where you gotta climb up the sword? And hard mode is quite a bit harder than normal, so I'm satisfied enough with it.

Dead Space is definitely at the bottom of the list, but I'll probably pick it up in a few years on the cheap.

Maybe, it was high expectations for Shadow of the Colossus. I went into that game, expecting one of the greatest games I ever played featuring incredible boss fights. The boss fights were good (a few were great), but for a game featuring nothing but boss fights, I did not think they were exceptional. DMC3 had better boss fights, not to mention all of the filler in between. Still for $10, Shadow of the Colossus is at least worth playing, and it's also a pretty short game.

Got to agree with Drexlerfan on this one... got forced into playing a couple games of this last night despite accusing the friend doing the forcing of trying to destroy my fond memories of the game. It felt really clunky after playing modern shooters, motions was awkward not to mention the N64 controller design to me is more uncomfortable than the old brick style controllers. Great when it was new, but don't think you're going to enjoy it now.

My list would be the MGS series, GoW series, and the old original Zeldas (pre OoT). The original Zeldas I would not want to play now though.

Mark me down for loving Metal Gear 3 and FFXII. Loved them both.

I'm always a couple years behind. I couldn't afford this gen of systems when they came out, so I've missed out on a ton as well, so the problem I have is this: once I get the system (usually 2-3 years into its lifespan), the games have advanced so much that when I go back to play the older ones, I've already played the newer ones, and as a result I find the older ones so dated that I can't enjoy them. A prime example of this is I went back to play GTA3 after playing and beating Vice City and San Andreas, and found GTA3, for all its ground-breaking-at-the-time status, decidedly underwhelming.

When I get my PS3, I plan on going about gaming differently and buying and playing through what are now the Greatest Hits before moving on to the newer, bigger, better, (and more expensive games).

So here's my list of games I've never played that I really feel like I missed out on:
    -FFVII
    -Metal Gear Solid
-Any Zelda game post-Adventures of Link
-Any Metroid game beyond the original
-XBox heavy hitters like Fable, Fable II, Halo, Gear of War

I'll get these when I get a new system:
    -Resistance
    -Ninja Gaiden Sigma
    -Oblivion
-Drakes Forture (the first one....is DF2 out yet?)
-There's no way I'll be able to hold out on God of War III and Killzone 2

And I'm sure there are many, many titles I've left out.

Edit: Scribo, FWIW, Shadow of the Colossus is one of my favorite, most engrossing, most epic games ever. One of the reasons I won't even consider another system is what these guys will come up with after Ico and SotC. Just my two cents.

I've actually been meaning to try playing the original Zelda again, and any Zelda that was released on the SNES, since the SNES really was the only major game console I never owned. My brother continually brings up how he plays the original Zelda even today and it manages to be fun. Truth be told though, I can't think of many NES games that are really like that anymore. I can think of Defender of the Crown, Kirby's Adventure, the Megamans, Paperboy, the Marios, and Punchout. There are a few, but not many.

For those who have played Zelda: OoT, can you tell me what makes this game so revered? I see it constantly listed in the top 5 of greatest games of all time polls. Does it still hold up after all these years as a game that is worth taking the time to play through? How about for someone who never really played through any of the Zelda series?

I'm curious to try out this game, but I don't really want to devote my time to an older game if it isn't worth it over newer games since I don't exactly have a surplus of free time.

I guarantee that when you finish this game, you will be left speechless. Even to this date it is still untouchable. Challenge yourself to beat the Water Temple without a strategy guide VERY TOUGH. If you play and finish this game, you will want to play every game in the series trust me.

If I play, I would be playing this on an emulator. Are there any parts where rumble pak technology is required?

I haven't played a lot of games that were supposedly great games (Fallout series, Final Fantasy series, etc), but they really didn't interest me. I once bought a game called Planescape Torment that was supposedly one of the most underrated games when it came out. People that played it loved it, but it never got a ton of press or hype. I bought the game, but never played it... I think I got too busy with work at the time to play it. I'm not sure what I did with it... The game came out probably 10 years ago (?) and there are still people playing it or looking to play it.

Similar thing happened to me. I found it for cheap at a local store, and played a little bit of it (was loving it). I think I got busy with school or something, so I quit playing it for a bit. I think I let my sister borrow it, and she ended up selling/losing it. Wanted to get another copy, but by this point, the prices online had already started to skyrocket. No more $10 copies. :(

Would have listed that, but I technically did play some of it.

Alright man, with your recommendation and after doing some research on the game, I decided to buy a new copy of Devil May Cry 3 off of ebay. The nice thing is, DMC3 is actually the first in the series chronologically, so I'm not going to totally feel like I stepped in right in the middle of the series storyline.

I also decided to get the special edition version so I can play it on a more reasonable difficulty, as well as having all the extra goodies available to that version (e.g. ability to play as Dante's brother).

Sweet. Two things to remember regarding difficulty:
*Like the Gamespot reviewer said, if you die a three times it will give you the option to start over on Easy. This version isn't as punishing as the original, but Easy mode is there if you need it. :)
*Vergil (Dante's brother) is, well... better than Dante, though perhaps slightly less interesting to play as. Playing as him on Normal is approximately as difficult as playing as Dante on Easy.

How long ago was it when they put out the DMC Greatest Hits collection? I see it is still available at GameStop for $20. Wonder how limited it is...

I'm interested, but I kind of want to hold off another month or so before I start buying some games. Not much time for games right now, and not sure how much playing I'll be doing in the near-future.

edit: Oh yeah, and does that collection have the original DMC3 or the SE?
edit2: Never mind, someone on the reviews page says it is the SE.
