Cuisine doesn't matter. Price doesn't matter. This is a no-holds-barred your favorite place to eat thread. It can be as cheap and greasy or as refined as your palate desires. The only caveat is that it's in Houston. If you want an Austin, or Nashville, or Dallas one, start one. If possible, try to attach a link to your favorite restaurant's website. So let's hear what y'all have to say. Personally, mine currently is The Rainbow Lodge. They always have a great steak, but I almost always go for a game dish. Whether it's duck, quail, venison, boar, etc. It is always top notch. Plus it is the ONLY place I know of in Houston that serves elk from time to time, which, IMO, is the best tasting meat, period. Add to that an ambience that makes you feel like you're not even in the city, and it always pleases. http://www.rainbow-lodge.com/index.html
Hmm... tough one... Tia Maria's - the food is okay. But we've been going there for about 11 years so the the staff know us like family. So, going there is like going home. James Coney Island - I grew up on 'em. And, though they're not as good as they used to be, and their prices have gone up, I still take my family once a week. I like knowing that my kids will have the memory of eating chili dogs with the family every week at JCI I like many other restaurants, but I don't feel like I can call them a favorite.
Fatty, do you post on anything other than food threads on CF's? Not being rude, but thats where I mainly see you pop up. Back to the topic, I live on the Northside, and personally, I love Kobe's Steakhouse. This new place is opening up called Cheddars Casual Cuisine. Its not open yet, but I have heard from others that it is great. Best seafood in all of Texas is in Galveston, and is called Fish Tails. Got to try the crab stuffed shrimp, wow! Other than that I'm a Marie Calendar kinda guy.
^^^ and Red Robins has the best burger ever. Get the one with a fried egg on top. Its called "crowned" something. Very good!
Bombay Brasserie Ruggles Chuy's 100% Taquito Thai Spice (Village) Barry's Pizza Freebirds Mi Luna Texadelphia Cue's Burgers and More You can tell I am not a high roller.
My favorites. Breakfast? Room Service at the Lancaster downtown, or any Waffle House. Not that the two are equal, but both favorites of mine. Lunch? Jake's Philly Steaks on Chimney Rock, or Pappy's Cafe (my favorite chicken fried steak/steak fingers in town) on I-10. Dinner? Oh, probably Houston's or Capital Grille. I do like the tenderloin fajitas at El Tiempo as well. There are others worthy of mention, but these are favorites that come to mind most readily, all based on my determination of the quality of the food, not superfluous elements such as atmosphere etc.
I went to Rainbow Lodge for Thanksgiving, so obviously it wasn't the full menu, but it was very good. I had duck gumbo and a buffalo rib that fell off the bone. Capital Grille is the best Houston restaurant I've been to. Went to Mark's once, and it was excellent. Tony's is the biggest disappointment of my life.
I went to Los Cucos last week when I was down for a family visit. First Mexican food I've had in 4 years, and it was so much like heaven. God, I want some more now.
Brennan's will re-open. My favorite fast food is James Coney Island. Combo #1 (the Houstonian), no onions. I could probably eat at Papadeaux every day and not get tired of it. If you're into fried shellfish, you can't do a hell of a lot better. Is there better French bread in town?
Kim Son by far is the best if you like Chinese food. Please tell me somebody has been to it? Not the small ones, the big one across 59, you can see downtown perfect.
