Damn. Mindblowin......amazin......phenomenal. Every playoff he hits the big shots and once again tonight in LA blaow tip out from shaq with 0.7 left .....BANG. Definately one of the top 5 ever clutch wise as one of the writers on the net said the other day. Hey they just mentioned Horry as one of the stars on the Rockets back-to-back championships. Good to see were remembered. BTW, my dad saw Horry in Kinko's back in 96. True story, no pictures though. Who knew he was gonna be this big?? Yea well i'm pretty much rambling now....go on and comment.....you know you want too......
If Reggie Jackson was Mr. October, then Horry is Mr. May/June! How a guy can go from a good player in the regular season to Legend in the playoffs EVERY YEAR is mind boggling. And this guy wanted to come home last year, but,oh yeah we wanted Rice and his contract instead because we needed a clutch player to steady the young guys?!?
Considering you opened a thread exactly like this in the NBA Dish I'm assuming this will be locked. But the minute Horry touched the ball I knew it was a tie series. Mario Elie has hit some clutch shots, Jordan has hit some clutch shots, but there are certain guys you KNOW it's going in when they touch it. Reggie Miller and Robert Horry. Amazing.
he was huge! a man who is always money(at least in the playoffs). I'm curious to find out how many (playoff) games he has actually hit the game winning shot in? Would be a relatively huge number. As crazy as this sounds, he really is worth the $5mil or so for the lakers.
Well, actually, that thread is celebrating Horry, Laker, hitting clutch shot to win for the Lakers. This thread is about a debate about Horry, Rocket, Laker, being one of the most clutch ever.
Horry has been and always will be one of my favorite players of all time. I was really not happy when he was traded. But, he's a guy that deserves to be in a situation where he can hit big shots in big games. On the Rockets, that wouldn't be happening.
Ah I see, then this thread should stay alive! I didn't mean my post to slam you or take a jab at you, I've just seen people open similar threads in different sections and it was just kind of a warning to not be surprised if this thread was closed, that's all!
Oh no need to apologize....always much love on the BBS. Yea, I was so excited I was about to go and bust about 10 different threads about the same thing but then I got them all into this.
hen you'reused to winning its contagious. Cassell is pretty clutch and so was maxwell. Lets no forget the last shots Hakeem used to make. You expect great players to make big shots, but guys like horry, you don't expect it.
Can't stand the Lakers but I couldn't help but sit and smile when Horry hit it. He did it for us in the playoffs time and time again.
When Divacs missed the free throw, I told my wife and my best friend that is was all over, just give it to Horry and he would win the game because he doesn't miss the last two minutes of games. I almost had to eat some crow because Kobe was trying to be Michael Jordan and then the ball popped and it was all over. There was no question in my mind, the lakers mind, and most importantly the Kings mind the ball was going in. I nominate Horry for induction in the Clutch City Hall of Fame. He defines the word Clutch. Question for you guys. Why do they leave him wide open at the end of games.
Because Kobe the ballhog usually takes it to the hoop to draw the double team and the other team is usually worried about Shaq putting it up in case Kobe misses. The Kings were well adjusted against Phil's last play, but Vlade's tipover to Horry was more fluke than execution...
Same reason people left him open when they played here. Are you going to let Hakeem and/or Clyde beat you? Or are you going to take your chances with Horry. Even as Clutch as Horry is, the conventional wisdom tells you that you have to shut down the #1 option first, and if one of the other guys beats you, hats off to them. Horry was lucky that the ball bounced to him. And, he was clutch when he turned it into a winning shot. I found it interesting he wasn't in there trying to get a rebound. If Vlade doesn't tip that ball out of there then Horry just looks like another stiff standing at the three point line while everyone else is banging. But, being clutch is all about answering the bell when its your turn. Horry finds a way to do that time and time again.
Horry only shows up for one or two plays once in a while and is over-rated as a "clutch player". Sure, I respect what he did for us in Houston, but today was pure luck. "Just a lucky shot, that's all,'' said Divac, who had 23 points. "You don't have concentration. He just threw it up. If it goes in, it goes in.'' Right on Vlade. Kings in 6.
