Alright...been awhile since I have subjected the BBS to a "Manny music thread" What are your favorite heavy metal CDs of all-time? My top 5 would be: 1) The Blizzard of Oz - Ozzy Osbourne 2) Back in Black - AC/DC 3) Ace of Spades - Motorhead 4) Master of Puppets - Metallica 5) Screaming for Vengeance - Judas Priest Honorable Mentions: Vulgar Display of Power - Pantera Number of the Beast - Iron Maiden Paranoid - Black Sabbath (hey they are metal to me!) Reign of Blood - Slayer Among the Living - Anthrax Undertow - Tool (although I would say they are more hard rock/progressive than metal, but what the hell I'll throw them in there)
What about anything by Jethro Tull? I still can't believe the Grammys gave them the best hard rock/heavy metal award. That's the day I stopped watching the Grammys... Wait a damn minute...I was 5 years old!...uhhh...i take it back.
Do you know what I hate, when people think Jethro Tull is a person. Who is Jethro Tull? *look of disgust* I loved that line
Dude Manny...OLD SCHOOL STUFF bro! Here's my list. Deftones - Around the Fur Zeppelin (Yeah fools, they WERE metal.) - Zoso Damn...I guess thats it. Lol, I reread Manny's list and I just realized that Motorhead song is on Tony Hawk 3.
Master of Puppets - Metallica (pleasant dreams that I've been after) And Justice For All - Metallica (hear them calling....hear.them.call-ing.meeeeee....ah ha ha ha) Cowboys from Hell - Pantera (we're taking over this town) Countdown to Extinction - Megadeth (feeling claustraphobic like the walls are closing in) Cryptic Writings - Megadeth (I'm like a bomb that's ticking. I got voices in my head. I got a doll with needles, and wishin' you were dead) Rust in Peace - Megadeth (5 Magics = greatest Megadeth song ever) Led Zeppelin 2 and 3 (2 was harder, 3 was better overall...both were totally kickass) Menace to Sobriety - Ugly Kid Joe (I'm a-sailin' and my ship's got a hole in the side. I'm all alonnnnnnnnne. My and my daydream tonight) Aenima - Tool (Learn to swim, learn to swim, learn to swim, learn to swim)
Iron Maiden - Powerslave, Number Of The Beast, and Iron Maiden Iced Earth - Days of Purgatory Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime Slayer - South Of Heaven, Reign In Blood Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses, October Rust Metallica - Master of Puppets Pantera - Great Southern Trendkill Blind Guardian - Nightfall In Middle Earth Dio - Holy Diver

Sorry Manny, didn't see it 'til just now. New Jack -- where do you live? I had to go to my last Type O Negative concert in Austin by myself....it's cool to see some other fans (I know Manny lives far away, so he doesn't count )
Interesting. I don't put Zep in the heavy metal category, personally, so I'll add my others: Queensryche: Operation: Mindcrime Rainbow: Straight Between the Eyes UFO: Strangers in the Night Tony MacAlpine: Edge of Insanity Yngwie Malmsteen: Odyssey Mr. Big: Lean Into It Kiss: Alive II T-Ride: self titled Whitesnake: Slip of the Tongue David Lee Roth: Eat 'em and Smile Van Halen II (if Zep can make it, so can they and...) Aerosmith: Toys in the Attic AC/DC: Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
Well, the definition of heavy metal has changed a lot in the last three decades or so (as I am sure you know, Jeff). As I recall from my readings (not old enough to remember) Led Zeppelin was considered a heavy metal band when they first started. At that time, their music was about as heavy as it got. I don't think that was necessarily the case for bands like Van Halen. But if you go by one constant definition, then I would put Van Halen in the metal category along with Zeppelin.
Anthrax - Sound of White Noise Metallica - Master of Puppets Megadeth - Rust in Peace Fight - War of Words Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
OH sheeyot I forgot about... Rage Against the Machine - Evil Empire also their self titled one. Does anybody besides me think Rage is a ripoff of Zep? Like, their riffs seem very similar to me. Compare Black Dog and Revolver for instance.
One of my favorite albums of all time. They created a masterpiece of a concept album that was cleverly conceived and put together (Michael Kamen played a big role with his brilliant orchestral arrangements). I always enjoyed the fact that Queensryche never fell into that generic heavy metal sound (kind of like the new metal now that all sounds VERY similar). A very underrated band overall with talent at every instrument, especially Geoff Tate's incredible voice.
led zeppelin II van halen -1 van halen - fair warning alice in chains - facelift alice in chains - dirt metallica- master of puppets metallica- black album ac/dc- back in black ozzy- blizzard of oz
NO WAY!!! Is that the one with Death Alley Driver??? I haven't heard that song in years!!! I remember waking up to my big bro cranking that song up, thinking he was playing around with the chain saw...at least that's what it sounded like before I fully woke up!
My favorite band is P.O.D. Their CD Satellite is awesome. There isn't one song on the cd that I don't like.
Damn, I haven't liked Heavy Metal for so long, its hard to think of any, but I'll do it anyway. Megadeath - Countdown to Extinction Metallica - Metallica Helmet - Meantime Helmet - Betty Korn - and I don't even like Korn that much. Pretty much all of my other Heavy Metal CDs have been pawned off. As for current bands, I have to confess. I LOVE Andrew WK! While calling him Heavy Metal is a bit of a stretch, he definitely Rocks! The album is just 100% pure enjoyment. At first it just struck me as stupid, and I guess it sill does, but I can't deny how entertaining it is. I can't get it out of my CD Player!
