...I wonder if he'd trade Pao Gasol for him? Then we'd select Jay Williams. Don't get me wrong, I love Franchise. However, if trading him would get us Gasol and we still get a stud PG, we'd solve our problem at the 3. Or instead of Jay Williams, we could trade the #1 to Cle for Andre Miller and their #6. We get one of the top 5 PGs in the NBA and a #6 pick and they get the young Williams they covet (you know the CBA won't even consider Cle).
How about Stevie to Cleveland for Andre Miller and the number 7. We get Ming, a point guard to run the team and give ally oops to Ming, Eddie and perhaps Cato. Miller leads the league in assists by three a game. At 7 we take a banger like Hilario or Stoudamire or Wilcox. At 15 we take a small forward. Or viceversa. perhaps even two bangers and guys who can jump out of the gym and join Ming in the big gym rats developing game club. Ming goes to a team that is team oriented. Cleveland doesn't have to pay Miller the max. Stevie can lead another team in points, rebounds, assists, charisma, attention and perhaps even blocks and everyone will be happy. Cuttino frets at first but then enjoys putting up 25 pts a game instead of 21. Cuttino also enjoys going to the playoffs. Moochie frets, too and we can oblige by sending him to Cleveland for a second rounder and filler. Cato frets, too, but he was going to do that anyway. Morris frets and can be shipped to Cleveland for a second rounder in 2007. Cleveland can pick all the members of the Maryland team except for Wilcox, who willl be picked in the lottery. Again everyone will be happy, except for John Lucas, who can we can hire as an assistant coach after he loses his job in a season or too. Lucas gets to come back to Houston; then he, too, will be happy in the end..
Glynch, if you think Steve made a bad face when he was drafted by the Grizzlies, I can't even imagine his "I've been traded to Cleveland!!???!!" face. But seriously, the Cavs don't want to pay Miller the max and that's why he is on the trading block. Why would they want to pay Steve the max?
Now that would be funny! Poor Stevie. Anyway, I don't want anything either Cleveland or NY are sell'in. There is a reason they both suck sooooo badly. We had major injuries on a 47 win team without EG. What is their excuse? Pass!
Francis is going no where! But what if we traded the #1 for Miller and there #6. We could move Francis to the 2, and Miller would be our new point gaurd. We could get Woods, Dunleavey, or Butler. And we could use Mobley back off the bench. Or he could be used as trading bait with one of our three powar forwards.
Its the birthright of Grizzlie fans to hate Stevie after giving up on the our organisation ... we sure dont want him back! ... I doubt he is tradeable now since his headaches might lower his value ... But if you manage a sign and trade deal with Cleveland it'll be one of the best days in my "sports"-life ...
Cleveland's excuse is that they don't have anyone to put with Miller. Cool. We'll take him off their hands since they don't want to pay him fair market value
In that scenario, I'd take Butler who I think might be available. I'd still rather have Gasol/Miller/Butler as you know the first two are going to be stars. We have no idea about Ming.
No way, Dunleavy falls to #6. Besides, I've had enough slow white boys that can only shoot. How about a real ball player this time, Mr Tomjonavich?
Have you guys heard of something called consistency and chemistry? That helps a team mature, develop and win. And you cant do it by constantly rotating players at every position.
From a basketball standpoint I really like the Steve to Cleveland for Miller and the #7. If we get Ming we'll have another guy that wants the ball (along with EG and Cat), so a PG that is more pass first could be the answer. The real intriguing part is the #7, because at #1 we get our center of the future and at #7 we can solve our SF problem with either Bulter or Tsika. However, we would lose our franchise player and wouldn't be getting one in return (though a very good player and a very good prospect). This would not help our Les with his prepping up the team for moving to the new stadium. A lot of people that know basketball but don't know all the players would be wondering who this Miller guy is and who this foreign guy is that we traded oru franchise player for. If CD and Rudy are convinced that Ming can be a franchise type player that the fans will take to quickly or if we're simply good enough to make the playoffs then that would more than compensate, but those are if's and the Franchise's appeal in Houston is for certain. CD would definitely have to be bold but its something a GM has to consider.
I personally think that Andre Miller and 10 assists per game are much more valuable than Stevie. Fans are fans. They'll come around as soon as the wins mount. With a pass-first point guard for a change, that will happen more frequently.
Out of curiosity, who here would trade #15/Cuttino for Miller, provided Steve moves his butt to the two-guard?
A middle first rounder and decent two guard for the 3rd or 4th best PG in the league? In a heartbeat!
If we could do that deal I would in a heartbeat. I don't know that Cleveland would be that interested though. Unless they're sold on one of the available PG's at #15 (and Frank Williams definitely has some appeal) I don't see it happenning. They have a lesser version of Cat already in Person. Maybe if they're certain they can't resign Miller and this is the best deal, but its certainly not something that will have them jumping out of their socks.
How about Cat for Miller straight up? If we have to throw in #15, I would do it, but I think the Cavs might make that trade player for player. BUT, is it really fair to trade Cat after he signed with us for less because he wanted to be here. He was loyal to the Rockets, so to what extent should the Rockets should be loyal to him? Just something to think about.
