I know quite a few folks have NBA 2K9. 2K8 had a major flaw because it wouldn't allow you to play a season with a great player, like Hakeem or Bird. 2K9 allows you to play a season with a great player, but they teased us by not allowing us to use them in franchise mode (the CPU makes them retire at the end of season one due to old age).

Well someone just told me how to get around that glitch, so I'll share for those who don't know. Go into the edit player section, and you will see where they list the player's age. The great players don't have an age (as in a number)...it just has a "-" in the age column. Go to that column and click one time to the right. The "-" will still be there and it looks like nothing has changed, but that isn't the case. Go the screen where it shows how many seasons the player has been in the league, you will notice that number changes to 1 (i.e. making the player a rookie). Now you can use the player in franchise/association mode and it won't make him retire at the end.

Now the tough part is deciding which Rockets team to start a franchise with...86, 93, 94 or 96.

On 360, I uploaded the classic Rockets team for others to download. It has:
    Hakeem Olajuwon
    Clyde Drexler
    Vernon Maxwell
    Kenny Smith
    Otis Thorpe
    Mario Elie
    Matt Bullard
    Robert Horry
    Sam Cassell
    Scott Brooks
    Carl Herrera
    Chucky Brown

Its not perfect, but better the other ones out there. You might want to tweak it a bit. 8/10

How big is the learning curve on bball games?

I bought 2009 madden and the setting I had to use just to play was more like watching animation than playing a game. Is it pretty easy for a sports video game newb to fully control pretty quickly?

I have mostly stuck to FPS, racing games, and Tiger Woods golf in the past.

Just play on easier settings until you get the hang of it. I think you're in control of the action (as it happens) more than madden so you really don't have to worry about plays unless you want to, maybe PnR, iso's and a zone here and there. NBA2k can get somewhat hard (for some people, not me :D ) if you play on superstar or higher, if you just want to jack up some shots and dunk try out NBA live.

for someone who hasn't played, it's slightly better than madden in that you can play it by learning the pass, shoot, turbo, steal, and block/jump buttons for the most part.

the intricacies are there, but you can choose not to use them and still play decently on an easy level. You'll pick up the other controls over time if you're interested enough (first you'll learn how to post up probably, and then later how to do things like crossover/fancy dribble, jump stop, take charges, call plays i.e. pick and roll, etc.) And hopefully learn to direct pass..

Man, I wish someone did this for the PS3. There is some dude called PortlandBlazer that has uploaded classic rosters from say every season in the 90's for 360 (check out Operation Sports forums).

I think I'm gonna just dump Hakeem and Ralph on a sorry squad and build form there. Either that or go with the 86 Celtics.

The curve is steep at advanced levels, but they have lower levels that anyone should be able to play on.

Its in the options menu. When I get home, I can add directions. You have to have your gaming system online through xbox live or PSN. If I were to guess, its where you manage your roster....or what it in features....geez, give me 2 hours and I'll let you know.

I love NBA 2K9. But I have a pc and with the pc version there is a bug which makes games crash and go to the desktop in the middle of the game. It doesn't happen every game but it happens too often. It is very anoying.

Besides the bug NBA 2K9 is the best basketbal game there is. It is amazing that every player has its own shot technique. It is brilliant.

You didn't?? Wow. You are lucky.
I read about it on Forums of 2K sports. And it doesn't happen every game, but it happens way to often. It is so anoying when you play games awith 10 minutes quarters and at the beginning of the fourth the game just crashes.

Where did you find those rosters? I've found the 94 team but I'd love to play with the 86 team.
