I am shopping around for a golf cart, prefarably a used one within a reasonable price range, but don't really know where to start.

So a few questions: gas or battery-powered? How much would you pay for a used one that is in decent condition, in either case? What are some of the pitfalls I should be aware of, and some of the pros and cons that you know of? And finally, what local places/sites would you recommend I shop at?

    Thanks!

Way back when we used to belong to a Country Club, we still had to pay cart fees, even when using our own cart. I suggest checking with the places where you golf to see there policy.

Personally, I'd purchase a gas powered one, especially if you play on "hilly" courses. Again, check with the course to see if gas powered carts are permitted.

What you really should do is to buy a Segway with a bag attachment. :)
There are some courses in Arizona that use Segways in lieu of carts. It quickens the rounds (everyone goes directly to their own ball) and they weigh less so they do less damage to the cours.

We just bought a used one for the Lakehouse.....prepare to save a little but probably not as much as you think, unless you buy from someone directly.

We went through a shop in order to get a warranty, a conversion of the back to seat or deck, and lights etc....

My community has a golf course exclusive to residents, and it is a pretty flat terrain, so I guess battery powered would be fine then (and cheaper, I reckon).

And I am looking for something really cheap, probably in the $1500< range. Ideally, I would prefer to rent/lease a golf cart on monthly basis but I am not sure if that is feasible.

If it were up to me, I would just buy an ATV and use it. But I am pretty sure that is not allowed on golf courses ;)

Craigslist is a decent place to start. There is a Golf Cars of Houston superstore on 45 N and the Beltway. I'm pretty sure they sell refurbished carts.
