He went on a program to gain muscle mass like 3 years ago, he gained muscle mass overall, but mostly in his legs. Then either before this season or last he dropped mass in his upper body thinking it would help decrease the pounding, but his legs stayed about the same, and he's been that way since..

I never thought you could build around yao mainly because of stamina and injury issues. You can insulate that by having a lot of good players on the roster. This is the 21m dollar question that management needs to seriously consider. I say this because there will be games in the playoffs when you might need your main gun to play 40 mins. It may also need to happen more than once. How confortable are you with yao logging 40 mins a night in the playoffs?

Get a legit backup that adelman feels confortable playing for 18 mins a night and cut Yao down to 30 mins a night. Also adding versitile players that don't need yao to be effective. Surround the team with guys that can play offensively in all forms. Doing that will take the pressure of yao a lot. They also need to get another all star caliber player on the team.

Funny, because I was just thinking about it the other day. Problem is, it's hard to find a superstar that's not injury prone. To do that, you would need a high draft pick and a lot of luck, or a huge market like L.A. or NY to get somebody via free agency. And 1 doesn't usually work. You'll need two All-Stars at the least.

That is the only way to maximize Yao's talent. I have been wanting a backup 5/4 for a long time. Getting a replacement for Mcgrady is a must like you said.

Well, I would start with a guy like Turiaf. Makes 4m, high energy, shot blocker, 6'10 guy. Its give and get, push and pull. It probably will cost shane, so what? Turiaf and Kelenna for shane. That's the kind of pf/c in the mold of like funderburke or even brian grant type. Azuibukke is like wafer except a better rebounder and a stronger player. Also, the best gm's can find good players on sorry teams that can play well on a good team. That's like gasol,mo williams, type of deal. Now some guys can just put up good numbers on bad teams and some guys can put up good numbers on good teams. Morey needs to find a guy in a situation that will be a really good player that's stuck on a poor team.

To answer the ops question, you can't build a team around an injury prone anything.

Spencer is a good one. Andris Biedrins? Dalembert? A Lopez? There's more.

As far as versatile players who don't need Yao to be successful: Artest, Wafer, Brooks, Lowry, Landry, and Scola are all steps in the right direction.

The team is on the right track. We just need a backup C. Deke has that role, except that Adelman is reluctant to play him enough over the course of the season.

lol, Chinese people, despite maybe very few stupid bureacratic suckers, are very concerned about Yao's health and don't want him to play for CNT in the summer. However, sometimes Yao wants to play himself. Anther thing is, during his career, he will never be an AMERICAN, NO WAY...i doubt he would do that even after retirement...
tip:Chinese people have very high expectation on him......for raising a lot of kids...future centers of chinese basketball haha.

    Facts speak louder than words.

And check out the stats before you make a thread.
The fact is : Yao never be the first choice, so what blah blah... the words about "building around Yao" was cooked.

Mr. Mcgrady has been the first choice since 2004 no matter how chuck he was and what the FG% was. And he is always the last one coming out from the resting room.
Even in this year, Yao got only 999 shot atempt in 75 games while Artest got 1011 in 67 games. So who is the hell the first choice of the Houton Rockets? Who was build around ?

Facts speak louder than words. :D

Time to bump this one back...

Yao has really shown that he can be a great leader during these playoffs, both off the court and on the court. However, would it be safe for us to keep Yao as our first offensive threat and as our go-to guy? We've seen how difficult it is for him when he is fronted...

Once again I'm not saying TO TRADE YAO, no no no. The guy is the leader. However, our leader doesn't need to be our first option necessarly...
