    Two questions:

    1) How much does TWC paying you?
2)Can you hook me up with a job there?

FYI WoW's and most MMORPG's bandwidth usage is trivial compared to the transfer caps people are talking about in this thread. It's a misconception that it uses a lot of bandwidth.

    Nod and wink collusion.
This and the "50-60 bucks for 5 gigs" 3G uniformity in pricing is so obvious it's obsurd.

Correct. But still, these bandwidth caps are dumb.

Wow. So much hate. You use more. You pay more. Granted, people using less than 5GBs should be paying a lot less. I highly doubt TWC has been making money on the high end users for a while and see this as twc's way of making money off all their customers.

again, i think people understand using more should mean they pay more. the pricing plans offered though are insane. which is why a lot of people will make the jump. i think its comcast (?) that is like 30-40 bucks for 400 GB a month. the rates offered with TWC are ridiculous. it also irrates people, which is understandable, when they were given a lot of money to upgrade their infrastructure. after the fact, they now wanna say well we are running out with the people hogging the bandwidth. its fine to agree with the caps, it just amazes me how some are questioning why people are upset about the caps.

I can see being upset. Accusing everyone that isn't as upset as them as being a TWC employee does amaze me. If you can get a better deal, take it. I don't know if TWC is being ridiculous. Maybe comcast was trying to ease in the idea of pay per use rates.

Either way, TWC is a company. They are making a cash grab. They are trying to make as much money as they can by either turning high volume users profitable or turning them away. That is what companies do. I work for money as well. As long as there isn't collusion, I expect a decent rate or I'll do without.

you also have to understand that TWC can be a monopoly in some areas. people may not have an option to make the jump, so its either take the ridiculous rates or have no internet. i get that TWC is a company looking to make profit, no question thats what businesses are all about, doesnt mean people shouldnt be upset, they're gouging customers to make profit. thats why everyone is upset. telling people, well TWC is just a company trying to make the most money, isnt gonna stop people from being upset. it doesnt make people fools or idiots as some have suggested in this thread either. people have a legit argument to how silly the rates are.

300gb per month costs the provider less than $2.00 for the bandwidth.

It isn't the hate towards TWC that I was directing my comment towards...it was the personal attacks on BBS posters.

I still see no evidence that TWC is gouging...I only see evidence that they are trying to drive certain customers away. Companies only intentionally drive away a customer because the customer isn't profitable (or for stupid reasons like racism).

This creates a false solution for the bandwidth problem. We need to be redoing our network issues from the top-bottom. It was not designed for what we use it for today.

Policies like this will just hinder that from ever happening.

Plummeting cable subscriptions, massive layoffs planned, billions of dollars in losses reported their last quarter. Competitors like Fios and Hulu taking away their subscriber base and that will probably continue to happen, I mean...

Thanks for saying in less words what I tried to explain :)

I wasnt familiar with the term but I guess I was referring to "internet brownout", basically the internet grinding to a halt cuz its clogged up with too much stuff. Some of it sounds like a bunch of doomsaying, but this from an article:
Comcast said they're targeting abusers and charging overages after 250GB. Thats fair. I dont want to pay extra to upgrade their networks cuz knuckleheads are ruining it for everyone, let them do that. And if they're getting enough to fight this "brownout", good.

In Time Warner's tiered pricing it doesNOT matter if its bandwidth abuse pirated or legal cuz they set low limits in their mid level plan. You can have a change of heart and pay for everything you used to leech off the net for free and still be WAY over their net limit. Time Warner I think knows that. And they're also saying well if you want to watch all that stuff, we already have cable TV for it. Or they're trying to keep pace with the others, and of course be good to their shareholders.

Time Warner Cable shelves plan to cap Internet use
By The Associated Press - Thu Apr 16, 2009 4:10PM EDT

Time Warner Cable Inc. is shelving its plan to bill customers based on how much Internet traffic they generate, following mounting public and political outcry.

Time Warner Cable's capitulation doesn't bode well for the future of metered billing of the Internet, in which people who use more bandwidth pay more.

Frontier Communications Corp., a Time Warner Cable rival in one key test market, Rochester, N.Y., also has dropped its plans for metering Internet use.

Wow, a case of an elected representative responding to communication, gauging public opinion, and acting in the best interest of his constituency according to his concience. Rep. Massa is to be applauded for standing up to Time Warner in this fashion. Seems like he fought the good fight (or at least threatened the good threat) and won.

I live in Beaumont and they upgraded everyone to RR Turbo for free for 3mo's. This is horrible, I may have to look for another ISP.

That's all nice and great. I'm ecstatic, but I'm still getting rid of TWC the nanosecond I get out of this lease I'm in. Hell, I might even cut it early.
