it's about the offense manner, yao usually turn back to basket when he starts his offense while pau usually faces it, that's why pau has to put the ball over the head with his long arms, when you turn back to basket, you dont have to take that way to protect the ball
I think the first thing Yao should do is use his pivot. Like stated previously, he uses the dribble to back down before he does anything else. Just use that pivot to either fade or at least fake the fade. His best moves come from when he uses the pivot, uses a dribble and then re-pivots for the dunk or hook shot. He certainly has a lack of mobility, but he could learn to use more non-dribble moves off the pivot. This is something Hakeem was the master at. He actually didn't ever dribble that much, but he immediately went to the baseline fade pivot which he could fake if the defense overplayed him, or simply shoot if he felt like it. Yao is constantly trying to take advantage of the "mistakes" of the defense, but most times it's better not to think so hard and to just make a confident strong move that they have to stop. It's like he's thinking: I wish I was any good at flow charts. "Is the Double Team coming?" - Pass to Shane Battier "Is my man leaning on my back?" - Go to my Baseline Spin "Am I 10 feet from the basket?" - Dribble and Back Down "Is it the end of the game?" - Baseline Fadeaway "Is it anything else?" - Jump Hook The other thing Yao could improve is getting low to the ground. His biggest weakness is his high center of gravity. Yao needs to learn to get better leverage while he's posting up so that he's a better target. It takes a lot of energy to do this and it's not in his habits, but just for crunch time, I would love to see Yao get low. Then once he catches the ball he should go immediately to a pivot or something else. But more than anything else, I think Yao needs to forget everything he's "learning" and just think he's playing Chris Kaman every game: "You can't ****ing stop me". Like someone else said, if only Ron and Yao had their brains switched it would be perfect (only for basketball, I couldn't ever imagine Yao rapping). Yao talking smack to Kobe would be straight up awesome.
Here are some reasons that Yao cannot learn those moves from Gasol. - Gasol is a softy with girly legs unlike Yao's. And with his past knee injuries, knee to knee and possibly landing on someone else's foot will always forever be on the back of his mind. - Yao's foot work is not the greatest, so for him to be tripled team inside the paint and hold his pivot foot would be a challenge. I am serious about this but Yao should take a year long's worth of ballet lessons to help his footwork especially the pivoting aspect of it. I would really like to see Yao slim down to 300lbs, which would grant his feline quickness back.
you cant be serious.....all it is, is holding the ball high when making his same moves. The other moves i talked about were what he did earlier this season.
yeah yao should always keep his ball over his head, it makes no sense to keep the ball parallel to his torso as he can't dribble at all. I mean his ball is very liable to get stolen once he dribbles.
