Its a little premature to speculate at this point because we don't know how and why we were eliminated in the first round.

Given today's news about Yao's "bruised" foot, what if he does not play in the playoffs and we are once again down to one superstar (Artest). Thta would be that once neither Yao nor Tracy can stay healthy.

How will TMac come back from surgery?

In any event, the Rox window of opportunity is closing with the Yao and TMac experiment. T Mac is definitely past his prime and may actually be done as a good NBA player. Given's Yao's age and size, he probably does NOT have many more good seasons left in him as his body will break down.

Artest is a 12 year veteran, so signing him to a long term contract is dangerous too.

The best thing that Morey has done is bring in and develop young talent which can be the basis for rebuilding if it comes down to not having Yao, McGrady or Artest much longer.

It takes at least one extraordinary talent for a team to improve to elite status and those players do not come around very often: Chicago and Jordan (6 rings), Houston and Hakeem (2 rings), SAS and Duncan (4 rings), LAL and Kobe (3 rings), Miami and Wade (1 ring) Cleveland and LeBron (0 rings so far).

If you have a player like one of the above, you can build a dynasty by adding complimentary pieces around the superstar. Since 1991 anyway (the last 18 years), the champion has almost almost always been a team with one of the above superstars and good complimentary players. Without that super stud, you won't win a title; even with that super stud a title is not assured (e.g. Malone and Barkley).

Neither Yao nor TMac is that super stud, and until we get one, we will struggle to go deep in the playoffs.

The only thing I would do: trade Tmac, our current no Tmac team played very well. The money, Tmac made, can sign how good players for us?

Anything to numb the pain...I'm thinking Jack, and if I feel like really remembering the old days, I will bring out the Olde English 40 oz.

Seriously, I still do drink Old E on certain occasions. My girlfriend gets pissed.

But, here's the catch... Everyone assumes Yao is going to resign with the Rockets...

So the other flip side to this is what if they don't make it out of the first round and they can't resign Yao?

If we don't get past the 1st Round again...we go ahead and wait till next season..the same way we have the past few years.

    Easy.

Trade Yao's ass for B.Miller, Hawes, Bynum or the Italian Center of Tor or whoever for RA's Princeton System and build this team around AB, Brooks will be our future officially.

so we can see whether it's Yao's problem or someelse.

That's actually very like to happen considering the fact that we will probably end up as the fifth seed without homecourt advantage.

We go one more year. If we fail, we need to remove Artest and let McGrady go. Try and sign a guy like Joe Johnson and just put a different suporting cast around Yao Ming.

    man.
    then we'll be like.

    IF ONLY TMAC WAS HEALTHY.

which is true. but still. this team is good enough to pass the first round.
i do not want another heartbreak series. i dont think i'd be able to handle it.
id probably give up on basketball, as well as life.

    :(

    jk about the life part.
i'd seriously be super depressed though.

The Rockets haven't been the second best team in the West in years.

As much as I don't want to ponder the possibility of another first round exit, I know the reality exists. The fact remains, every team in the West is capable of winning their first round series, with the exception of whomever is playing the Lakers. Think about it, would you be surprised by any team winning a seven game series? I certainly would not. Each team in the West is capable of beating the other team. This holds true regardless of home court advantage.

Because of this, the Rockets should hold course. I think you have to figure that they will sign Artest- there seems to be mutual admiration. I believe that Morey will shop McGrady's contract. Morey has stated on more than one occasion that the Rockets are looking for one more elite level player. What exactly does that mean, I dont know. Giving it a quick thought, I would assume that are going to look next year and not wait until 2010. Maybe Vince Carter?

As a previous poster mentioned, blowing up the blueprint is not the most prudent method of doing things. See Phoenix and Dallas- neither team in my opinion is significantly better than they were in previous years.

The Rockets have a franchise center and several serviceable young players. Because of this, I believe the Rockets will tinker and try to add pieces. Hopefully one year, everything will bounce their way.
