Under the scenario that we lose, both SA and Portland win out, we would take on Portland not SA cuz the division leader is gurantted to be first, therefore, SA is #3 and Portland become #4. Unless SA lose all the remaining 3 games, we would not face SA in the first round.
as long as we don't end up playing utah..i am ok with watever # we are. so it all depends on how Utah does with their 3 remaining games. i hope they lose 1 or 2.
I think if both us and SA win out or both lose the last games, this seeding will hold. In other words, as long as we have the same records as SA and Denver wins, we take the 3 seed. I am so glad that my hunch (a couple of weeks back) that we would lose to GS did not come true... barely. Now I hope I can jinx my hunch of losing to the Mavs. In any case, the Mavs game will be REALLY tough. They are hot and they are motivated to get out of the 8 seed.
In this scenario, Houston, Portland, and San Antonio both finish 53-29. Denver finishes 55-27 so they'd be #2. You then determine division winner which would be the Rockets so they'd be #3. The last game for both the Rockets and Spurs are both division games so if they both lose it doesn't really change anything as far as tiebreaks go. Portland has the head to head against San Antonio so they'd be #4. 2. Denver 3. Houston 4. Portland 5. San Antonio As far as Utah being a lock for #6 if they win out? Maybe. If they win out, then whatever team wins the next DAL-NO game has to win out to stay ahead of them. The road is easier for Dallas (MIN, HOU) than it is for New Orleans (@HOU, @SA).
So are these brackets (currently) correct? http://breathingfire.com/nba/playoffs/2009/bracket2009.php Man, if so I wish the season would end now. We'd have NO in the first round, possibly Denver or Dallas in the second.... and the Lakers, Jazz, Spurs and Blazers all in the other bracket. That would be the best possible seeding we could hope for.
Bottom line is this, we're thinking "us us us". But if that #2 or #3 seed works for us, and Portland ends up #4, that works for THEM. You don't think that's a dream seed for them? SA w/HCA with them feeling REALLY well about how they're playing them and Lakers in the 2nd round with them REALLY liking how well they're playing them? Portland fans must be drooling over 4th seed as much as we're 2nd or 3rd!
If the Rockets beat the Hornets on Monday night, tt looks like it will come down to this: Win in Dallas, Rockets get the #2 seed. Lose in Dallas, Rockets get the #5 seed and head to Portland. What a huge game.
Portland wants Houston to win the Southwest division in case of a 3 or 4 team tie. It's the difference between the #4 and the #5 seed for them.
Win in Dallas, AND Denver loses one game, get the #2 seed. Lose in Dallas, AND if SA loses (to a div rival), #3 seed. Lose in Dallas, AND if SA wins, #4 if tied w/Portland, #5 if not.
Not much. Unless Portland and/or Utah get upset tonight, it won't be any clearer. All of the predictions given thus far are based on the assumption that the playoff teams will beat scrub teams. If Golden State can beat Utah and/or (to a lesser extent) if the Clippers beat Portland, then that would alter the scenarios a bit.
Not much unless there is a huge upset. Portland at Clippers, Warriors at Utah. Sunday has the other NO/DAL matcup, and then a couple WC Play-off teams playing scrubs.
oh ok. well i guess nothing is gonna tonight then..there's a 0% chance jazz lose today. only hope is in the clippers. who knows.
Today's kind of an off-day after all the excitement of last night. Things heat up a bit tomorrow before we get down to the last 3 days.
Sunday ------- San Antonio @ Sacramento Dallas @ New Orleans Monday ------- Sacramento @ Denver New Orleans @ Houston Oklahoma City @ Portland San Antonio @ Golden State Minnesota @ Dallas L.A. Clippers @ Utah Tuesday ------- Utah @ L.A. Lakers Wednesday ---------- Houston @ Dallas New Orleans @ San Antonio Denver @ Portland
FIFY...added Cleveland games because if they lose to Boston or Indiana, Lakers have more incentive to beat Jazz on Tuesday, which directly affects us.
