http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/smith2_090406.html James is averaging 1.72 fouls per game in an average of 37.9 minutes per game. James hasn't even been in foul trouble one game this season. He never has had more than four fouls called on him in a game, and since March 1 is being called for fewer than 1.3 fouls per game. In 12 of the 20 games since then, James has been called for one or zero fouls in a game. James had a stretch of five straight games to conclude March averaging 36.8 minutes per game without being called for one foul. Not one in five games! In the last nine games, James has been called for three personal fouls. It's really amazing given the involvement James has in the action of the game.
I don't watch many Cleveland games at all but that is what I was thinking. The guys is huge and drives to the basket constantly so he has to be getting away with something there.
He was already getting away with travel calls, now this I dont picture Lebron on defense physicially grappling up on people much. Not many of the Chuck Hayes, Ron Artest type chops when players are going for shots. Usually Lebron goes after the ball when its in the air cuz he can. Fouls per game his CAREER hasnt been that high actually (2.0). But thats a bit low on the foul rate of late.
This is complete bull. I mean if they give him fouls, he should at least have a higher foul rate. There's NO WAY he can only average 1.72 fouls per game. That's just sad and so obvious by the NBA.
He has supreme body control for a man his size, and he knows how to slip in that extra hop step to get around defenders without the refs call him for it. I rarely see him directly charge into a defender. BTW, here's the players with lowest fouls/48min that play at least 25 mpg (min. 30 games): http://www.basketball-reference.com/fc/tiny.cgi?id=XyuPz Rk Player Tm G MP MP PF 1 Tracy McGrady HOU 35 1181 33.7 1.5 2 Tayshaun Prince DET 78 2940 37.7 1.6 3 Michael Finley SAS 77 2215 28.8 1.7 4 Jamal Crawford TOT 65 2479 38.1 1.8 5 Michael Redd MIL 33 1203 36.5 1.8 6 Allen Iverson TOT 57 2093 36.7 2 7 Tony Parker SAS 68 2313 34 2 8 Derrick Rose CHI 78 2875 36.9 2 9 Chris Duhon NYK 76 2820 37.1 2.1 10 Steve Nash PHO 70 2378 34 2.1 11 Brandon Roy POR 74 2781 37.6 2.1 12 Kevin Durant OKC 70 2748 39.3 2.2 13 Andre Iguodala PHI 78 3096 39.7 2.2 14 LeBron James CLE 78 2948 37.8 2.2 15 Ronnie Brewer UTA 77 2479 32.2 2.3 16 Jose Calderon TOR 64 2195 34.3 2.3 17 DeShawn Stevenson WAS 32 886 27.7 2.3 18 Peja Stojakovic NOH 57 1943 34.1 2.4 19 Luol Deng CHI 49 1665 34 2.5 20 Deron Williams UTA 64 2348 36.7 2.5 LeBron's foul rate isn't abnormally low, IMO.
Oh please, don't sit there and defend LeBron. You know there's no way in hell he only averages 1.72 fouls/game.. Refs even miss his "blocks" where he fouls them on the block attempt. It's just pathetic.
So you've given one example (I assume that's a reference to LeBron's foul on Jason Richardson). But that's not evidence that there's a trend with LeBron getting away with fouls. Actually, from my observation, LeBron frequently gets fouled on his drives to the basket without getting the call. So if people want to say that he gets away with charges (none come to mind for me), I would say that it calls are missed in the other direction as well.
So is Steve Nash. Neither plays defense, but TMac has been the better defender in the last few games.
This is true even though you will now get flamed beyond belief for saying it because LeBron is a superstar for another team. Because this is a Rockets fan site, anything said in defense of LeBron will lead to scathing criticism. It's a two-way street where he gets away with fouls and gets hacked a lot with no foul called because of his strength. I'm surprised to see Brandon Roy and Ronnie Brewer up that high.
Dude I watch a lot of basketball in general (with an open mind) and I love watching the cavs play and I have to agree with you here. Now I am not saying Lebron doesn't get any superstar calls, but nothing more than Kobe, Dwade etc.... I hate how so many people don't give Lebron the credit for the stuff he has been doing. It really really amazes me how good this guy is. Yes the media hypes him up a lot, but rightfully so IMO. I love reading your posts and A_3P0's posts because you guys really tell it how it is without being bias. Keep up the good work.
You remember that game in Houston vs. Cleveland where he CLEARLY charged over Yao, but the refs failed to call it because it would have been his 3rd foul. He eventually got his 3rd, but he gets away with too much. If you want to the way of him getting fouled a lot on the other end, let's also bring in the travels and carrying violations he clearly gets away with.
I am not sure what your stats represent, it doesn't seem to be the fouls per game. Based on nba official stats, James is averaging 1.7 fouls per game this season. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/lebron_james/index.html?nav=page http://www.nba.com/statistics/playe...tType=9&yearsExp=-1&splitDD=&pager.offset=150
durvasa, do you seriously think it's normal to average 1.7 fouls per game for a defense player of the year candidate?
