true, but things like "mental approach" or how your skills help the team win can be more subjective than skills possessed by players.

    Hi Mark Jackson here!

Dwight is better because he dunks alot!

Who cares about FT shooting, offensive "Skills" (not dunking), and being freakin 8 feet tall!

Williams kills Paul everytime they play, but people consider Paul the best pg. Team success, player stats, consistency. I think Yao is more polished offensively and yao anchors the defense. If you were building a team, most would pick howard because its easier and he can play in mutliple styles.

Who cares who is the best center? Let Howard have it and
enjoy the fact that Yao dominates the "best center'' every
    time they meet.

Don't forget they undercount Yao Ming's blocks per game stat in most games too, as several posters have already noticed in the past. His blocks per game stat should actually be higher, so you can't go on stats alone as sometimes they are falsified also. And also, if they undercount his blocks per game stat, who knows how many other stats they undercounted also, especially when others have also noticed that he does not always get the extra rebound stat as he should when he gets an offensive tip-in as when other players do it and it is mostly counted.

:D and Alston is the best PG because of trick dribbling. That'y why they are called 'Magic'

Most would pick DH because he is 5 years younger than Yao.

    This sounds like interesting.
The better player DH cannot always beat Yao.

Personally I like D Howard and believe he is currently the best centre in the league although I am a Chinese.

Of couse I still wish to see yao defeat him.

Offensively, Yao is the best center in the game, no doubt about it. There's no one in the league that can guard him one on one in the post. It takes a team effort to slow him down and he is really good at passing out of double teams to set up his teammates for open shots.

Defensively, Howard is better than Yao. He's strong enough to defend the post against most centers, and he's athletic enough to help out on guards and forwards. Yao has trouble coming out and defending pick and rolls, but he has really improved his defense in my mind since the all star game. He's done a good job of using his size to stop guys from getting to the rim, and he is going straight up and avoiding stupid fouls.

Overall I like Yao better because although he's not on Howards level defensively, he still makes a huge impact on that end with his size. Yao is still one of the better defensive players in the league. Offensively, Yao is way ahead of Howard and he can score and create opportunities for his teammates in a number of ways. Howard needs to develop some sort of post game or mid range game before i put him ahead of yao. He also needs to improve his passing and his free throw percentage to make teams pay for doubling him or fouling him.

I swear some of you drive me insane with your total homer arguments.

Dwight Howard is 23 years old, averages more points per game than Yao and leads the league in rebounding and blocked shots.

He's about to become the fifth player in history to lead the league in blocks and rebounding in the same season. The other four players are Kareem, Hakeem, Bill Walton, and Ben Wallace.

    Stop the insanity already.

    Re: boxing

Basketball is a game of matchups. Some teams that are more talented and have better records match up poorly with teams that are less talented and have inferior records. It's why 8th seed Denver could beat 1st seed Seattle and why 8th seed Golden State could beat 1st seed Dallas.

The same thing is true with players on the court. More talented players can struggle against lesser players based on matchups of strengths, weaknesses, etc. It doesn't really mean anything until it happens in the playoffs and both players are focused on the matchup.
