Obviously Rockets don't want Yao or they don't know how to get Yao

Shark's GM Li did _not_ say anything unkind, he simply stated the truth, "Rockets never contacted me nor expressed their interest in Yao to me directly".

I personally don't understand why Rockets invested efforts on Eric Zhang as their highest proirity, to Li, "who the hack is Eric?" If you know what I mean..

Regardless news hypes, put yourself in Li's shoes, what would you do to some "unknown" team for giving away your best talent?

A very obvious indicator that either Rockets don't want Yao seriously, or they just don't know how to negociate.

    *sigh*

"Yao is a civilian with much less restriction than Wang. I think once a contract is signed (with 9 signatures as reported), it will be a done deal.

The question is how to get everyone to sign the deal. I think the Chinese National Sports Authority and CBA are the easier part. They want to make sure that Yao continues his national team obligation. You may argue, say fine with Olympics and world champsionship. But what about Asian Games and other regional games? China is already No. 1 in Asia. Why do they need to recall Yao back for those games
by hindering his development? I think you may win on this.

Shanghai Sharks are business. They ask for money and a replacement for Yao, etc. While NBA has a collective bargaining agreement that only allow $350,000 be transfered between internaional leagues, it was really considered a very considered a selfish move by the Americans. Yes, it prevents bidding war for international talent. But who the hack is willing to give up talent for only $350,000. That is what the alternative compendation kicks in (TV revenue sharing, free use of training camps in the US by international leagues, etc).

Now, one can realize why Sharks like Knicks and Bulls. They would certainly love LA if Shaq is not there. Simplily put it, it is about money, about big market lure. Bull###### about Big Chinese population in host city. Menke Bateer plays in Denver and is doing very well w/o a lot of Chinese contact, right? This is simply the excuse.

NY and CHI understand that. Both Layden and Krause went to China several times earlier this year and discussed various scenarios with the Sharks informally. (NBA rules bar the formal negotiation before the lottery day). I think Shanghai, New York and Chicago came away understanding other parties' conditions and possible offers - they are acceptable to all. That is why Yao had the private workouts for both while in Chicago.

I hope that some one in Rockets would understand this and they better get up the curve and start the negotiation early. If they don't, Sharks would simpliy perceive this as a sign that Rockets are going to trade, which is fine for them anyway, since Sharks are interesed in seeing Yao play in New York or Chicago. Perhaps what Ming or rather the Shangai Sharks don't realize (or fail to acknowledge) is that the NBA has guidelines that limit the kind of contact the Rockets our allowed to have with the Sharks.. and while other teams get away with it. It doesn't mean that they didn't break some rules...

What you will also find is the Rockets staff is one of the most honorable staffs in the league... In this business people make promises to players and coaches that they often renege on but the Rockets have always played the game on the up and up... You might not get the most hype or Glitter for Ming in Houston But what you will get with the Rockets is an honorabel staff dedicated to winning and a good city to live in...

Perhaps MSG is offering the sharks money under the table or someone else is making promises of big shoe contracts if he signs with such and such team (i don't know) If Ming signs with the Rockets he may not get as many deals, perhaps. What he will get is a team who will treat him with respect and do everything they can to help him become the best player he can be and to win champioships with him...

Players around the league love living in Houston and Love playing for the Rockets If Ming asked around he would learn as much...
There is only one drawback we play by the rules...
