http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/6364234.html Pretty sad story in the Chronicle today. To sum it up, 21 year old is punched outside a bar, hits his head on the ground, and dies. Mom wants grandchildren and asks a judge to preserve his sperm. Her wish is granted. She says her son wanted children and even named them. 1) What 21 year old wants kids? I'm not talking about in the future, I'm talking about as a 21 one year old. 2) Why deprive a child of his/her father for selfish reasons? A child isn't going to make her son come back. 3) Is the octomom available? Someone's gotta have this baby.
It disturbs me that this is medically possible and even further when I think about how they get it out.
Even though this may not be the case, and I truly hope I'm wrong, I just can't help but get the feeling that the mother is just wanting to replace the agony of losing her son with the joy of having a baby in the house. I guess legally this would be no different than a single mother going to a sperm bank (maybe not), but something about this is just unsettling to me.
i don't mean to get on my high horse here, but like the octomom, how is this any of our business and who are we to judge? it's not our life, and it has nothing to do with any of us. none of us know her so why the hell would you take such exception to this? there are millions of stories going on in the world that you'd find to be even more f'd up than this, and it sucks for the lady that this one is going to become a national story. to paraphrase the great roided barry bonds, "clean out your own closet first".
This is highly unusual, but I don't find it particularly creepy. It's not like the mother wants the sperm for herself and have her son's baby. Who's to say his sample wont go to a loving couple who can't have children?
So if he was already completely dead when they extracted the sperm, and someone takes this sperm and has a kid: Is the kid the beginning of the zombie apocalypse?
Dang, I knew a kid in college who got sucker punched in the back of the head outside the bar and he too fell awkwardly and hit his head on the ground and died. Sperm part is definitely weird though.
I guess it's weird... but really I don't blame the mom for wanting to continue her family's generation and genetics. It makes sense to me, especially if it turns out her son was an only child. So depriving a child of his biological father is apparently worse than the child not existing at all?
No, but apparently people do have a problem with this child existing at all. I say why not, if the doctors approved it.
Weeks ago at a nearby bar a woman got too drunk, just went outside for a breather but fell and hit her head on a brick fixture thing on the side of the building, then fell unconscious into a reservoir across the street and drowned. Didnt think trips to the bar could be so deadly. I'm not all too surprised by that mother's request for whatever reason. But I'm thinking more a wife doing that. For real, how is the mother going to dictate who or how her son's sperm gets put into someone?
