The 1985-86 Boston Celtics, the team the twin tower Rockets lost to in the 1986 Finals, currently own the best home record in NBA history at 40-1. The Cavs are currently at 36-1 with their only loss coming to the Lakers. Their remaining home games are against the following teams: San Antonio Washington Boston Philadelphia It's pretty impressive how tough they've been at home. I believe they can lose any of those 4 remaining games, but I'm not sure if they will. They seem to have a decent chance of tying the record.
I think they will. It seems like matching the home record is the only thing that motivates them now since they became bored with the regular season. The best thing that could happen would be a loss or two because it would snap them to attention.
They could lose any of those games, really. I don't think they'll lose to SA or Washington. San Antonio can't match their offense, and they just lost to the Wizards, and I don't think they'll want to again. Boston could beat them, but again, I kind of doubt it. But I bet they lose the Philly game.
Man, I don't think I am either -- but damn they've had a good season. I think it'll be tough to get a good reading on how good they are until when and if they make the Finals. But its hard to argue against them with that home record.
They've always been a good defensive team, but it was the offense that sucked. This year, they've revamped their backcourt by bringing in two very good guards in Mo Williams and Delonte West. IMO, good guard play is the most important thing to any offense. And the impact has been evident all year. The Cavs were 19th in offense a year ago -- probably right near the bottom amongst playoff teams -- and no this year they're 4th in offense. It's not just LeBron handling the ball all the time on the perimeter, like last year. He can play more off the ball now with two ball-handling guards, and he's developed a very good post up game. I also like their front court more this year. Ilgauskus has mastered that face up jumper, and especially when LeBron gets him the ball its practically automatic. And no more Drew Gooden on the post. Now its LeBron and the guards creating offense, and the bigs playing off them. That's how it should be.
People just can't seem to get over what the Cavs used to be. Perhaps the worst thing ever for their image was the dreadful Finals performance against the Spurs. Last year's team had two good opportunities to win in Boston in the playoffs. This year's squad has all the tools it takes to go all the way. They are built for matchup, game-planned, grind-it-out, playoff basketball and finally have an offense that can inflict damage when their defense destroys the other team's rhythm on offense. In close games, they have 3 guys that will break the opponents heart: LeBron, Mo Williams and Delonte West. The Cavs are for real.
They had west last year. Mo Williams is a very good addition. Remember they got blow out by the magic. This team is going as far as number 23 is carrying them. I don't particularly think they have done a great job of building around him. From not signing boozer to the Hughes deal they have made some questionable moves, but when you have bron, he covers a lot of that up.
They are good but I still can't see them winning the championship. Even if they get of the East i just cannot see them beating the Lakers.
West is playing better than last year on both sides of the ball. He's a lot more confident and assertive. Mo Williams? 'Nuff said. LeBron himself is also playing better than last season, especially on defense. Their offense is no longer a complete joke. I was one of Mike Brown's harshest critics here until this season. Like I said earlier, they now have 3 guys who can make things happen, not just LeBron by himself. The whole team has a different feel than before. I can't really explain it totally. The Cavs organization has made some dumb moves in the past, to the point I was hoping LeBron would leave. The last couple of years they seem to have found themselves. Don't let these recent losses, due to boredom, fool you. When the Cavs are motivated, they crush teams. The problem is they only seem motivated at home right now. I expect the playoffs to change that. In a 7-game series, the only team I can see beating them is the Lakers. It will be fun to watch, especially if the Cavs wwin. I can't stand the thought of the Lakers winning it all.
Me also, and Magic also. The media overhyped those two teams in lack of Eastern conference dynasties.
I'm not either, but their home record is still impressive. Washington down...2 more to go Boston and then Philly.
while there is little to doubt about having the best record and being 38-1 at home, their record against the other best teams is certainly a valid reason to doubt them a little. they certainly seem to dominate lesser teams. and yeah, they don't seem to care much about road games right now. they probably should given that LA is only one game behind, but maybe they really want that 40-1.
