man, that word "Cato" Just scary and annoying as hell. The word puts visions of big contracts and big busts in my head. The fact that he sux doesnt bug me so much. Its just the fact that he could be a awesome player and doesnt want to be. He needs to realize how lucky he is. I just pray to god he improves.

I disagree with the assumption of you guys saying that Cato is a total wash!!!

Cato is the prototypical type of player that the Rockets style of play calls for.

Cato should be a natural shot blocker, he has a great looking turn around shot, he has a great looking 15 foot shot, he is a weak rebounder, and he does look agile when he wants to.

I say give Cato a good off season to work on his game. Guys Cato is a very attractive player to a lot of teams out there. And don't froget when the games counted Cato was playing like a mad man.

Cato can be a super asset to the Rockets. It's just that he does not get the ball enough in games!!! Cato is the type of guy who could score 12-15 points if given the ball a little bit more.

Oh, with Mobley supposedly gone, Cato may start to get more shots. Oh, Francis too. Oh, Anderson should too.

Ah, what the heck, Mobley is still the co-best player on this team until he signs with another team or retires!!!!

why the exclamation points on the prospect of losing mobley?

    you confuse me sometimes.

    actually all the time.

p.s. every game counts and i never heard of cato playing like a mad man every game. if he had we might be in the playoffs.

Remember, Cato is still a young player. In this, his third year in the NBA, he has played almost as many minutes as he did in the previous two years at Portland. According to the Rocket's plan, he would have played second string to Hakeem, learning the game in a team with a solid core, and experienced players like Hakeem and Barkley.

Unfortunately, he was placed in a position they never planned for -- being part of a team in transition, plagued by injury, with no experienced role model to follow. He and Francis were depended on for scoring and leadership. Francis did well under the pressure, and Cato struggled some.

You expect young players to play in streaks. They are supposed to have off nights, and to learn what it takes to perform consistently. They need time to learn discipline. He's got the skills, he just needs experience.

Like Vince said give him some time before you expect him to play like a veteran.

I Respond: What the hell are going on about,LOL? Is standing around waiting for someone to create something for you, and we are talking about actually putting it on the lip of the rim(alley oop), because Cato cannot catch a ball and shoot it himself. As a matter of fact, 50% of the time he cannot even catch it, he has the hardest hands of any Rocket out there. The center position for the Rockets either has been a finesse player or a opportunity creator. He is definitely not the first and is only marginal (a la the block, odd defensive rebound, his large size makes some opportunity, but he needs star quality teammates to make him average).

You wrote: " .... he has a great looking turn around shot, he has a great looking 15 foot shot ........ he does look agile when he
    wants to ......"

I respond: You must be watching a different Cato than me, my friend. He has a hook very rarely used and is so slow that most NBA players including Mugsy Bogues could swat it. I sure would like to see that 15 footer you mentioned, too. Is it his 45-55% Free throws the "15 footer" you mentioned?

His arsenal of offense is: 1. argue with the referees when he misses a shot, layup or dunk(I find that offensive) 2. Argue with the referees everytime he blatantly fouls someone(everyone finds that offensive, let's move on ....) 3. Alley Oop with about 30-40% efficiency, and that's poor % on an A.O. , 4. A power dunk with about a 60% efficiency, and that is again related to his immaturity, lack of court smarts, his super hard hands and poor ball handling for someone who gets the ball so close to the net as much as him.

Agility can only be measured if you move your feet once every three or four minutes. When does he do this?

Sorry man, I just don't see this Cato you are describing.

I was going to ask the same thing about Cato's shooting prowess.

In retrospect right now the Rox have a (going on) 4th year center who:

    1. Has absolutely no offensive game to speak of.

    2. Doesn't board even slightly well.

    3. Can block shots

    4. Just stands around on the offensive side of the ball.

    5. Doesn't play overall solid D.

    6. Shoots miserably from the Charity stripe

    7. Doesn't want to start.

Now which one of you guys were laughing when the Sonics signed Jim McIlvane to that huge contract a few years back???
