Before Landry got shot, the substitution pattern had been established. Everyone had an assigned job on the team. Yao was able to rest b/c there was a big off the bench who could score the ball. His midrange jump shot was dependable and available off the pick and roll with Ron. Now, the substitution pattern is completely up in the air. Scola and Yao have to play too many minutes b/c Chuck is the first big off the bench and he is just so damn limited offensively. Ron and Shane end up playing the 4 spot and in turn the team rebounding suffers greatly. This team was coming together and getting on a roll when Carl went down, and now its like they are trying to find themselves again. Too bad they are doing this against the best teams in the league.
He's not a beast or a top tier player, but he is an extremely valuable role player that can put the ball in the hoop and plays with the second unit. We desperately need that. You might be able to get by losing McGrady for the season, but not if you lose additional offensive players.
Disagree. As others have said, we need him for his hustle and rebounding, and also offense. Just watching the game last night there was a "who's going to make a move to get us back into this?" I'm not saying Landry's definitely that guy, but he can score and get the ball. We're just saying we want him back on the bench....
Landry being out is causing Yao to play extra minutes Landry is a tough, explosive, and extremely athletic player whose absence is taking its toll........
Wrong. Landry's minutes give rest time to Scola/Yao but still gives us an offensive weapon (unlike Chuck who gives us zero offense). This allows us to rely less on Scola/Yao, increasing their effectiveness when they're in. In addition, Landry requires guarding on defense, so it draws a defender away from Yao. This won't happen with Chuck. And if they leave Carl, he'll be scoring shortly. His role is very important and very missed.
Nice points. One thing that is over looked is his defense though. (me I always be defense first then offense). Lets face it Landry doesnt have it. He a lot of times will be lost and dont deny it just beause of the board we are writing on. I dont know how many times on switches and the variety he has lost his man or how often he gets scored on. And please players like Dirk or Garnett and other similar match ups I do hope we all see the same thing and not just blinded. Its true we lose scoring mentality with Chuck instead but why does he have to be a option? Unless he is open which i am sorry as bad a scorer he might be, because he is inside he will still be gaurded. Now you are right though, he dosent fit the in and out at all but poor thing is we barely play that system, sad huh? But true. Resting Yao and Scola? Why is this an issue????? Why cant we just give Deke a bit more time?? Thats a BS reason and everyone knows this. Its just the actual mind of putting Deke on the floor more. Look I miss Landry too but again he isnt the answer you all are making him out be. Maybe we would have beat Phoenix if he was playing but cmon now, PO time, him in or out wont make too much difference.
if you watched any of Carl's latest games before the shooting incident, he was playin way better defense. Specifically, he was blockin a lot more shots. He's still young and can improve defensively. And even though it was only one play, you can't dismiss his great defensive play against Deron Williams last year in crunch time. To say that having him wouldn't make a difference in the playoffs is just plain stupid.
He isn't the answer and hasn't done much on defense but he is needed. When either he or Luis are struggling on defense put Hayes in,but he is a 2nd scoring option at the 4 which is very important.
