What took Jordan so long to finally be in the Hall of Fame? From all his amazing accomplishments, I thouught he'd be in the Hall for a long time by now.
He retired in 2003. This was his first year of eligibility. He would have been in the Hall 10 years ago if he stayed retired the first time.
I'm pretty sure there's a time you have to wait after you retire to be eligible to be in the Hall of Fame because I remember when Jordan finally retired in 2002 or 03.
You have to wait 5 or 6 years (I dont remember) after you retire, to be elegible for the Hall of Fame.
I wonder why Jordan didn't get a pass on the 5 year waiting period. I know for a fact this requirement was waived for some players in the NHL (ie Wayne Gretzky). I'm sure other professional sports have waived or shortened the waiting period for their exceptional and revolutionary players. Basically, I'm for the idea of waiving this requirement for players who are so damned elite everyone knows they're gonna get into the Hall of Fame the moment they're eligible anyways.
